H22 Swap into '99 Civic *PICS*

Wiring up the H22 (using P13 ECU and modifying the Civic harness)

I didn't have the bracket to hold the timing belt tensioner, so I whipped this up in a few minutes with a spare bracket, a hammer, and a cutting wheel...

It doesn't seem like it could fit!

Oh no, that bracket doesn't stay there, it just holds the hydraulic tensioner in a compressed position so that I can slip the new timing belt on. Then it's removed and it tightens the belt up.

Here's the rest of it

Modifying the power steering pump. I rotated the return line fitting and drilled a new hole to bolt it in. I had to trim the pump a little for it to fit.

First startup...

After I confirmed that it was running correctly, I detached the harness and loomed it up...

Cutting the hole for the shifter...

There it is. Once the interior was installed you could hardly tell.

Exhaust installed. The cat-back had to be shortened to fit.

Installing the new fuel pump...

The P13 ECU just barely fits behind this trim panel.

All that needs to be done is the a/c and clean up the engine. It runs great and is VERY strong.

Well I'm an expert in all Toyota swaps since I've been doing them for quite some time now. This was my first H22/Civic swap though. It took me about 4-5 days of work including rewiring the harness (not using an adapter harness) and whatnot.

awesome. what kind of mounts and axles did you use? Could you make a list of parts needed and stuff for reference purposes?

I beleive the kit was a place racing kit, and the axles were specific for the swap (provided by the customer). There are several lists out there if you look around, that's what I would do.

Where in VT are you from? I used to live in Newport.

How hard of a swap was it? How much did it cost? I'm dying to put an H in my 98' Civic EX. I've heard I would lose power steering and AC, was it hard preserving those things?

I think including all the extra parts and labor it costed this customer around $2500, including the a/c and p/s and everything. That doesn't include the engine or mount kit.
