Heat only works when on Re-circulate?

My wife calls me saying her heat isn't working in her '19 xc90. I run through the usual stuff like, are the vents open and what not.

Finally we get to the recirculate button, and boom, instant heat. she turns it back to normal and it's blowing cold air.

Now, it's not that cold out today (almost 50 desgrees right now) so i can't imagine it's a lack of heating up. This was on a 30 min commute.

Any ideas before i take it in the to the dealer? we're out of warranty so if it's a simple fix i might attempt it myself.

bet it is the vent door motor.

This says there's 6 of them in the car. Seems strange that all 6 would go bad at the same time...

maybe something something in the air distribution box? there is probably one for each side of the car, one for the back seats, one for recirc, one for defrost...
