I need a new mother board and need to know what kind to go with and where to get it. Model numbers and anything else you ccan give me would help. I do not really game. I will be using this to run Internet explorer, downloading, play movies, burn cds, and run MS office and programs like that. I have a 40gig 7200rpm maxtor hard drive, a 32x speed cd burner, I want to go with 512 meg of crucial sdram, but I would like to have expansion for more ram in the future, and I have a shitty video card that will be updated when I get a better monitor. I also have an amd 775 processor. I plan on using it with the mother board, if I can, temporarily. (I need cash to hook up the CRX). Any suggestions?

I would go with a kt133a motherboard. I believe that is the code for it. That is what I am running on 2 of my machines and it is going well. You can get specs on almost any mother board and how good it is at www.firingsquad.com. They are a great site for specs and test and tune of mobo's and processor's. www.pricewatch.com is your friend for cheap prices.

I'd go with a TYAN Trinity KT400 (S2495)
I might have a motherboard here as well I'll look thru my stuff later

PERSONALLY, id go with SOYO

but thats just for ur amdk6....

btw, STAY AWAY FROM CELERON PROCESSORS if you want to game. or pretty much anything else that requires a normal processor

775 or 475? There wasn't an AMD 775 MHz processor.

I would go with Asus- it's generally the most stable board manufacturer out there. Go hit their page and figure out what you want by socket type, then go hit Newegg and buy one.

I second that my next favorite MB to work with is the Asus
but a TYAN board put any other MB to shame IMHO

Thanks, I will have to look into this. I do not know shit about pcs. Mike I thought it was 775 because thats what shows up on the first screen when I turn it on.

Hmm. Maybe... but really, AMD didn't make a 775 MHz processor. You can download an application called "WCPUID" if you want to find out how fast your chip really is. Search for it on Google and run it... you should be able to find it on http://www.h-oda.com I think.

Tyan makes awesome boards, but they still don't have enough overclocking options for me. Abit was my choice until Asus finally got up to speed on the overclocking biz... Epox makes extremely good value boards too. I've never used a Soyo board, but my friends have had success with them. MSI boards have treated me well, and so have Gigabyte and Soltek. I was the first to import a few specific Soltek boards in the mATX variety into the States... now they're all over the place. ECS is good too if you don't want to overclock. They make really nice stable boards for really good prices.

Review spots:

http://www.hardocp.com
http://www.tomshardware.com
http://www.overclockers.com
http://www.ambmb.com

There are tons more, but I really don't feel like typing them all out right now. Hit up Anandtech and [H] and you'll find enough information to make your head spin.

yeah I don't like overclocking. if it wasn't designed to run that fast than it shouldn't be done.
IF your looking for faster speeds I always say buy a faster processor

Heh. The funny thing is that they ARE all designed to run that fast. They just "speed bin" the processors to make the lower speed grade chips- they're all the same architecture as the fastest chip of that chip type. All the "Northwood" Pentium 4s are the exact same design as a 2.8 GHz P4. There's always room for overclocking.

Asus are pretty good thats in my AMDK62 350 box
but right now im running a Tyan Tomcat with a 1.2 celeron

not a great gaming processor but i got both for $185

B- show the pictures of your box

processors are like cars were cars designed to go 150+mph
no but do we make them go that fast??? the answer is always yes
