Lol slammed89teg you and I are opposites. I always hated rich kids that were spoiled by there parents and get what they want which is my reason for liking hard work. I'd rather work hard. I've always had to since I was little had to work for and earn everything I've got even still I'm helping my mom out with the rent and bills I guess you could say I'm proud of it. I get a sense of accomplishment and achievement through hard work that I can't get out of pushing a pencil and it just feels right. Sure I couldn't make as much money doing hard work but I like it which is why I'm going to a technical college to become either a mechanic or a painter/collision repair and body damage specialist. Leaning more towards collision repair since cars are getting so complex, but there will always be accidents :).

I think the point that you missed was that once you get into the physical work, you'll find out years down the road that it takes such a toll on your body.

I know Jord0n, slammedteg, is a physical guy and does other activities like wake boarding and all that good stuff. I know he goes to the gym, and I know he swings hammers for a living.

I'm a physical guy myself and when I was 17 I thought that it would be great to do some manual labor, get in shape, and get paid some decent money for the time being. As soon as you get through the initial newness and then the tasks begin to become monotonous, you lose drive.

You think it feels good to be 40 years old and swinging a hammer or carrying stuff all day long, when you've been doing it for 20 years? Eventually the human body breaks down and you'll have aches and pains that you wished never existed.

My advice would be to seek higher education, so you have the opportunity to work with your mind and not just use your body as your instrument of seeking income.

My dad worked construction when he was younger. He can barely walk now and he's not even 60 :(

Take care of yourself.

That sucks hardcore. If you ever need engine building, let me know. Ill do work super cheap for you :D Enjoy your time off, collect unemployment and let your old boss do your job. I quit a job once. I didnt like the way my boss was talking to me...so I told him like this "my mother doesnt talk to me like that, you think im gonna let this fly?" than I told him to go F himself and walked off the job.

Oh wait...you quit... you cant get unemployment... oopsy ;x

It is possible in some cases to claim unemployment even if you quit or get fired

I'm not claiming unemployment. Waste of time if you ask me. But on another note, I just got home from a 2 hour interview. So I got a job, making 25/hr, company truck, company tools, and alot of responsibility. I am siked about my new job and cant wait to start, Job starts Jan 2nd. Doing what I do best, renovating and remodeling, adding additions, blah blah blah.

Man I hope this job works out, This is the break I have been waiting for and finally the pay I deserve.

well I got some work for you if you wanna travel I need the finish work done on my bathroom, but little money.

congrats on the new job man! is the new job in the Roanoke area?

Thanks, I hope it works out.

Nah, I don't live in Roanoke anymore, just born and raised. I live in Richmond now and visit Roanoke on the Holidays. Sometimes I come through when going to the Natural Bridge Drag Strip. Other than that I try to stay away.

I wouldn't mind coming and helping out, your just about 6-7 hours away right? But this opportunity of a lifetime is something I shouldn't pass up. What all do you have left to do?

Sounds like a dream job compared to where you were at man. Hell that's enticing to take a year off for me. Seriously.

Expenses paid, and 25/hr is ridiculous.

Thanks, I hope it works out.

finsh sanding skim coat, silicone between sink and vanity, patch/ fill in wall around mirror, remove old surround, install new shower fixtures, install new vanity, finish subfloor in 1 room in bassement, frame and sheetrock closet, frame wire and plumb basement bathroom, install new circuit breaker pannel, finish basement bathroom.

I'm no pro, but fairly handy and learn quickly. some of this stuff i'm doing my first time. finding the time is the hardest part for me I go on weekends and my 5yr old comes with me. so usually by the time i get into something and get some momentom going he starts bothering me (needing attention) so i have to stop and play with him. so, the going is slow between my lack of knowledge and the "play time". oh and trying to rebuild tranny and new clutch in my prelude dosent help the progress on the house either. for someone who can't juggle I alway seem to have more going on then i can manage.

Well lets see, I have been working for the same company for 3 years. These jokers have been under paying me for my trade the whole ride. I got 2 raises the whole time and here at the last few months they started throwing all this responsibility on me. One being that I was now a supervisor for the company and had 3-4 guys a day(depending on how many drunks got out of bed that morning). I was the only one w/ a driver license so I got a company truck and I was told it was my responsibility to pick up the employees at their house and drop them off in the afternoon. I didn't have a problem with it at first, until I found out I was not being paid for the ride back from UVA.(1 1/2 hours drive from my house to the job site). Now when I left my house in the morning I drove 20 minutes to pick the first guy, (my time started when I got to the first persons house in the morning) another 25 minutes to get the other guy, and then about 15 minutes to pick up the last 2.(Sometimes they would not even answer the door and waste more time.) Then after I picked up everyone, I had about an hour drive to the job. Well, my time stopped once I left the job in UVA, and I would have to take everyone home in the afternoon and I would leave UVA at 4:30-5:00pm and not get home until 7:00-7:30pm depending on traffic. I did this for about 2 months, then the boss man wanted to give me 2 more employees that had no drivers license and he left all the work to be done on my shoulders. Keep in mind I was only making 15.00/hour. Which is chicken shit change for what I did. So talking to a few contractors around the job and them seeing me run the show, get the job done, they all thought I was making at least 25-32.00/hour. So 2 weeks ago I go and pick up the pay checks, well Wes's (a guy that worked under me) check was open. I looked in it and I saw that he was making 20/hour. Well I hit the ceiling, pissed off and confronted the company about why a man that has less talent, no drivers license making 200 more a week than me. No one could explain this to me, I then asked for the proper amount I should be making. The response I got was, we don't have the money. Well I told them you got my 2 week notice. So they start sweating saying they need my two weeks, they need my two weeks. The more and more I thought about it, the more and more I got pissed off about how those assholes did me after 3 years of loyalty and making the company money, stabbing me in the back. I was at work last week on Tuesday about 10am. I couldn't do it anymore. I went into the building and yelled at the employees "If you want a ride back to Richmond, I suggest you get the fuck in the truck NOW!!! Well 2 of them did, and 2 of them didn't make the train. Drove the truck back to the house and called the boss man and told him he can come get the truck.

So here I am right before x-mas, no bonus, no job. Pissed off at the world. I have a few side jobs to do to make it past the holidays, and I have talked to a few other companies, some are willing to pay some are not. I think I am going to take it easy for a while and just enjoy the time off.

Wow that is BS. Your the supervisor, yet there paying the guys under with no license $5 more an hour. I would have gone apeshit.

So my new job kicks ass! Company truck, tools, phone, gas and credit cards. I am working on 2 different full house renovations, and the work that had been done was all jack legged. Everything has to be redone. So I brought in my subs I have used before plus the 6 employees working for me and knocked out one house in 2 weeks that had a 4 week est time on finishing it. I will say the money is fucking nice, my first week paycheck was 1145.66, second was 1197.26, and since I finished the job 2 weeks early, they handed me a 750.00 bonus. I get paid again in 4 days on monday and from I figure it will right at 1200 again. I love this shit!!! I have never made this much money before and life has gotten a whole lot easier. Just seeing the money in the bank tickles the hell out of me, maybe I can get away from the whole "week to week" BS. They also told me I am starting another 3/4 house renovation and if I can beat the dead line I get a 1000 dollar bonus.

congrats! it's nice to hear that someone actually enjoys what they do. I have to put in about 60 hrs to hit the 11-1200 mark. that's 60 hrs of staring at a screen.

congrats dude. Glad to see you jumped back on your feet. I left construction the first chance i got. I loved the money but it wasnt worth it. I was making 15 when i left as a helper. It was only me and the boss doing remodels toward the end. We stoppped building houses. so he ifred the other 3. Made 20/hr when we finished up a cabin in Maggie Valley N.C.

first chance i got at theis desk job and i took it. Payes less but its a streadt paycheck every week without having to break you back.

I'm happy for you dude
