I live in the SF bay area and I've been searching crazedlist for the west coast and I found that most of the listings that have the car I want at the price I want are all in Southern California and I'm wondering is my asking for a $2200 working '96 Civic LX 4 door, white, M/T with A/C and Radio etc. etc. even possible up in the Bay Area? Most of the cars listed on Craigslist for the Bay Area are around $3500 which is out of my price range. I have points that I COULD use to fly down to LA but I'm a little worried about arriving and discovering the car is in far worse shape than I could've imagined. I also heard that some people on craigslist go way over the top with their prices because they're expecting Low Ballers, if so, does that really mean that someone listing at $3500 is really expecting to sell at $2500 or something like that?
Also as for tips in buying a car, should I buy a scan tool to check the car before purchasing or should I just avoid a car with a check engine light?
