my boy was on a site called integra something or other .com and he said that someone was talkin about swapin out a "b16" for a "b16a". and he was tellin me that there was a full engine with just the name "b16" and nothin after it. is this trew or did some tool give him the wrong info. cuz he knows nada bout hondas and just goes by what he read. and hes tryin to tell me that im wrong. can some one please clear this up for me.

I'm pretty sure all b16's come with at least an a after the b16. the jdm ones are just b16a, that's it. If it is another market b16, such as EDM or USDM, it will have that code after it. Like the b16a2 is out of a USDM civic si, and I think the b16a3 is out of the del sol vtecs. I'm not sure if that's exactly right, but all b16 blocks I know of have b16a at least (or b16b, but that's a different matter).Hope that helps. FYI, no North American market integras came with b16's, they all came with b18a's, b's, c's, and an ocasional b17a in the 92-93 gsr.

thanx for the info does any one have any other info i could throw at this kid just to prove he is a tool that knows nuthin.

like he seriously thought he was right and i just wanna hit him with an arsonal of info to shut him up

If you don't be knowing nothin, don't be startin nothing, in my opinion. I admire you efforts to learn about Hondas, but just remember your friend is a noob just like you. Why don't you take the weak side argument and just make him prove he's right? That will force him to learn crap by himself. Then maybe he'll turn out okay, and not act all ricer-fantastic.

I have physically seen motors from over ten different countries markets, and have never seen a B16A without at least the A. Here in Europe they use numerical designations, like B16A1, B16A2, In Japan, the have B16A with no number at the end. I have seen companies that make (or rebuild) blocks, restamp then. seen P72 stamps where B18C should have been.

But no, all Hondas from the factory have A or B at the end of B16, if they didn't, how would they know what goes where?

same here.. i have a b16a3, out of a del sol vtec. then there's the b16a2 out of a civic SI, and so on.

So does this mean that the elusive B16A1 really exists?

Yea, in Europa there is the B16A1, it is in the 89-91 CRX/Civic VTi :)

What's crazy about it? That the rest of the world outside Japan uses a system that lets you readily identify a motor and where it came from?
