My laptop has a 2 ghz processor, with 256 mb's of ram. Anyone think if my ram was increased that damn fan would freakin like slow down or something. I have the same laptop as you except mine is a 2.8 w 512 of ram and mine isnt that loud at all, my roommates laptop is fricken loud, and no i have no idea how to solve your problem except maybe you need a new fan. i dont think that adding ram would solve the problem.
or you could get a cooling pad here

well it's in a laptop so I'm betting it's the exhaust fans for the heat extraction system. They're pretty small, so they're probably higher RPM.

They should only kick on when your system gets above a certain temperature. Try propping up the back of the system (so the bottom is at an angle and elevated) and keep a low-speed fan blowing under the system during heavy use.

If you're too lazy, deal with the goddamn fans. You can turn them off I'm sure, but then you'd probably damage the internals.

well i know that ram would increase general speed and performance, and lower cpu power usage. My fan turns on at a certain temperature. it's just that if i thought that increasing the ram, it would be easier to the computer to do simple tasks. I've seen the differrence on my brothers and sisters dells, but they both have laptops. My brother's dell has 2 ghs with 768 mb's of ram( 3 256mb ram cards,) and my sister's dell is at 512mb's of ram. Her fan turns on sometime, and my brothers never turns on no matter what you do with. Shit im always on his computer going on the internet, play games, and watching a porno at the same time, and that shit never turns on. Everything goes smoothly from one application to the next. Movies start right up, games dont skip, and pornos stop and play when i want it to. So i guess i could ebay the ram cards. they have a good deal cause my inspiron has 2 sockets for ram, and i might max it out at 1024 mb's of ram.

the cheapest place i found a gig of ram was on newegg, youll have to get pc2100,
your brother must have a different laptop, cause I have only seen dells with 2 slots for ram except the xps laptops

both the brother and sister have desktops, sorry i didnt say it, but i found a legit sight to where i can buy 2 512 mb ram cards for about 65 each. i think the website is 4allmemory.com or something like that. good site, with even a search program that scans your computer for potential upgrade and then gives you a list.
check it out for anyone who looks to juice up their computer.

like i said newegg had the cheapest prices on memory, I found 512mb pc2100 for $48 a stick,

oh yea and desktop are way different than laptops

you might have a bad bearing or something. I have had similar problems with case fans in desktops. might just wanna replace it.

Increasing the amout of ram in your computer will not have any effect on CPU useage. It will not make your laptop quieter or cooler, in fact, it will make it hotter.

The reason computer with more ram run faster is that they don't need to use the swap space (virtual memory). Swap space is on the hard drive, and HD's have very slow access times.

Don't compare your computer to a desktop. A desktop has about 3 cubic feet of air inside it, while your laptop has about .2. Its obvious why laptops run hotter than desktops. Fuck, I'm running dual 3.0GHz and I don't have any problems running both CPU's at 100% for hours.

As for fixing your problem: go get a better fan online and install that. Also, when your computer is on a desk, prop it up with some poker chips or something so that you can get airflow under it.

Teehee...both of my computers work right now...cept one has a dead battery and no charge cable.
