newb question(push button ignition)

ok so i think these things are lame, 99.99% of the time, and especially when ricers stick flourescent green ones in the middle of the dash so it looks "cool". however, when ebaying for a possible replacement car, i stumbled upon this, and it caught my attention.

so could anyone give me some logic on how this would work?

and please, please, dont say "its easy, you just push the button"
