like the title states.. i'm looking for ONE program that has all of the above covered.. i dont want to install 3 different programs.. just one.. if i have to pay for it, fine (i've got my ways ;) )

soo.. how bout some suggestions?

for free versions, AntiVir has the best detection rates. i use it to clean infected computers, but its sort of like nag-ware. and ive read microsoft security essentials is actually really good and light weight.

for me, i run a combo of 2. i run NIS for protection and "real-time" prevention. then i run SAS (SuperAntiSpyware, free) once a month to pick up things like annoy cookies, registy clutter, etc that NIS misses. been virus/malware/spyware free since 2007. before that i ran NOD32 with spybot and lavasoft for a good 5 years and was infection free too.

gonna just run the Avira for now.. i'll get the AVG9 later

I like Avast. I've used AVG before but it seems that Avast has been able to catch stuff much faster and is more secure. Only problem is the damn update voice. It has scared me plenty of times though I'm sure there's a way to disable that.

most tech people recommend AVG but I think consumer reports rated symantec as the best all around package.

I had AVG9 with the internet security. It slowed me down too much.
I just run the AVG free and am careful with what I run/go to and don't have any problems.

+1 for Avast!

I got rid of the update voice - can't remember how, I googled 'get rid of Avast! update voice' or something like that

I have used Avast as well before and it was pretty solid.

i dont run avast so i can not verify these instructions... bit i googled it and here's what i found:

To turn off the voice and the blue screen (but still get automatic updates):

To turn off the voice:

*Right click the blue a ball
*single click " sounds"
*click "settings"
* in the program even box (the white box), scroll down till you see "Automatic VPS update".
* click on "Automatic VPS update" and click on the upside down arrow next to the white box under "Sounds:"
*scroll up and click on "(none)" and when you see a pop-up windows, click "yes" and click "OK".

(Note: check marking "disable avast! sounds" will disable all the sounds of avast! including the warning sound when avast! detects a virus)

To turn off the blue sign:

*click on "Update (Basic)"
*click on "Details"
*un-check "Show sliding box after automatic update"
*click "OK"
* now click "OK" to close the window and you're all set.

Now if you wanted to disable automatic updates (it'll also disable the sound and the blue sign), in program setting, just click Update(Basic). In the "Virus Database" area, select "Manual" and click "OK".
