Tapping gauges off the ECU?

I was wondering what the effects of tapping gauges off of the ecu would be?
I was thinking that since there are wires coming off the ECU showing battery voltage, oil pressure, air/fuel(I think), etc.

let me know if you have done this or if you know a good reason this shouldn't be done?
