Timing belt Damage valves

Quick question i was told sometimes on different cars when timing belt breaks sometime damages Valves if the engine runs a bit afterward. I have an 89 prelude stock engine just replaces a broken belt now cylinder #1 is running really crappy and where not sure if they valve got damaged any one know if this is the case?

describe what happened to the belt?
how long did it run for?

do a compression test to see if you have the right psi in the cylinder.

yea.. a broken timing belt can cause some damage.. how much?? no idea..

Depends on the car, interference engines can pretty much destroy some of the valvetrain depending on how fast the engine was spinning when the belt snapped.

Is an 89 prelude an interference engine though? I agree with eg6, do a compression test.

my crank pulley flew off a couple years ago and my t belt came off..... as soon as i saw the pulley fly down the rd i turned it off and saved my lsv, which i still drive every day.
