If you want to spend $1000 on a z6 and si tranny converted to obd1, I'll sell it to you. I see z6's all the time for 300-400, si trannies for $100. Unless you plan on paying $400 for a p28 you can do it for well under $1000.

It seems to me that the tranny is where you need to focus. Maybe consider an ls tranny. It has the longest gears of any b series tranny and would give you a wider powerband. Its generally slower for drag racing but since you're only going to be using 2 gears I'd say this should deffinately be...

The best thing to do is dyno the car and find where it stops making power. There's not much since in revving it past there.

I don't know about alot faster....I had an 88si with y8 I/H/E, my good friend had an 89 hf DOHC zc I/H/E and we ran dead on everytime. 9.68-9.72's. I put on a small turbo and he sold his car. Personally, I'd use the d16a6 with a cam and boost.
