I've done some searches for this but can't find the right keywords to get the answer I need.

I just bought a B18A longblock from a salvage yard that I'm planning to swap into my 89 CRX Si. The engine was marked as a 90 Integra but I want to be sure before I get too far into this.

By just looking at the engine, how can you tell if it's a 90-91 or a 92-93?

Put another way: The earlier models were obd0 and the latter were obd1. GREAT, what's the difference?

The main differences between 90-91 and 92-93 engines where the electical connections (on 90-91 where whitish and round 92-92 they were square and gray) and lack of injector reisitor box (92-93).

If you wanted to get down adn dirty you can look at the casting numbers on the head above the exhuast manifold.

Brian,
Thanks for the input (seems like you're the only one that ever helps me on this forum).

But, I'm a bit surprised. I expected there to be some extra sensors or something to distinguish obd1 from obd0 besides the resistor box and type of connectors. Are you sure there aren't any knock sensors, or some other crap like that on the obd1 type?

As far as casting numbers go, that sounds intersting. You care to elaborate?

if you look on the engine code. the 90-91 b18 shuld say B18A1 and the 92-93 shuld say B18A2

As far as I know VTEC engines only came with knock Sensors... and no problem on helping you, its what I like do to.

hahaha, LMAO. that shit made me laugh for a minute.

How are you supposed to tell if its a 92-93 or 90-01, I'm picking one up and yes I'm still buying yours, just not yet.

If it has the distributor on it the plus are round on 90-91 and square on 92-93... 90-91's have intector resistor boxes, 92-93 dont.

Took a look at my engine last night and the connectors are white and round = 90-91.

:D :) :D :) :D

i believe a date code is stamped over the 3-4 exaust port on the head, kinda close to the valve cover. its like the second number

90 - 91 = 130 HP, OBD0 wooot...

With some JE Pistons, a little increase in compression, more aggressive cams, and a less restrictive exhaust, whaddaya think it'll get? 140hp? 145? more?

More agressive cams can get u like 5-10 hp.
Compression...maybe 5
Less restrictive exhaust 1-2.
Port and Polish and you'll see some better gains, near 15 i presume.

I'm just estimating here, if i'm wrong about the gains just correct me.

You mean, whp or crank? Its safe to say like maybe 160 CHP which would be around 140 whp.

lol, i said correct me damnit. And I was close enough.

O I forgot about the pistons...what compression?

Havn't decided about the compression. Will talk to the experts @ JE.
