    Stupid Subject...but...

Just curious what you guys wear for those who wear it. I've been wearing Carharrt for the past 5 years. I would say a good 60%-70% of my non work clothes is Cahartt. My J130 jacket is the best jacket i have ever owned. My jeans do not have any wholes/tears in the bottom where the slack drags on the ground( i use to wear gap jeans which would rip after a good 6 - 8 months of this) after 2 years. The double front work duck J136 pants are the warmest pants i have ever worn in the winter. I don't even feel the wind in these thing

It seems that The North Face is everywhere i look now. i have tried on some of their jackets and wondered to myself why the fuck anyone would buy this overpriced garbage.

The way I see it, The North Face as the Apple of clothing. it looks nice but lacks behind in terms of real world use and fucntion.

Now i know Carharrt is becoming more fashion then real world use lately but there is a reason why you see people in Flying Alaska and Gold Rush wear mostly Carharrt and not The North Face shit.

Anyways what do you guys wear

I would say they're for two different markets.

Carharrt is more industrial work clothes.
North Face is more camping/outdoors/mountaineering clothes.

I went with other. I wear the off-brand imitations of North Face stuff. It's cheaper, and still gets the job done.

I have never worn a Carhartt jacket that looks good on me, and it doesn't get cold enough here to justify it anyway.

Yeah i bought my GF a North Face Jacket(thats what she wanted) and it was $149 bucks and she is still cold in it..Had to buy her a size bigger so she can wear heavier clothes underneath...My J130 Carharrt i could wear all day long in freezing temps and not feel a thing..at half the price

I wear a North Face jacket for work just about everyday...I work in the trades and never know when I'm going to be inside or outside. If its really cold/windy out its not that great but other than that I have no complaints. Light enough that I can just leave it on and roll up the sleeves inside and keeps me warm enough outdoors.

It's held up well, I've been wearing it for a good 3-4 years and other than some dry insulation glue and caulking it doesn't really show any signs of wear

ive had a few north face items and they all held up for years. as for warmth im extreme cold, im not sure... i very rarely leave florida.

im sure carhartt is great quality stuff (it looks it), but its a little redneckish for my tastes.

This topic is very weird to me. Corvette guy usually is all about the luxury item. Fancy Cars, Fancy guns. I assumed he was all about the form over function. Total curveball.

I wear carhart for commercial heavy duty construction.

For fine carpentry, you don't get the flexibility and I wear Northface for this. I also have other brands which are much more expensive and much higher quality than northface like mountain hardware, outdoor research, arteryx. I worked outside in the rain, so being bone dry is very necessary. Otherwise it wears on you.

I used wear carhart double knee heavy duty denim for work pants and I had northface rain pants I pulled over them in heavy rain. The carhartts take a while to break in to be flexible for carpentry but last forever. I have 3 pairs and barely are broken in over the past 5 years of carpentry.

Now a days I wear a suit to work. Mostly Hugo Boss or Jones New York.

I have something like this from north face.

Pros: Good Quality - bought it 3 years ago in 2009. Waterproof. Lots of pockets. Fits Well.

Cons: Today its 50 degrees and the jacket is too hot. The other day it was 30 degrees and the jacket wasnt warm enough.

I bought the North Face 700 Down filled ghetto puffy vest because it fits perfectly underneath this jacket and really makes a HUGE difference.... kinda like how the iphone 4 has reception issues if you dont buy the apple case :/. ALso, the hood on the jacket sucks because its way too big. I cant see anything if i wear it, but it is warm.

I'd replace this coat, but it still works. Next coat I buy will be from Canada Goose. They have adjustable hoods (both depth and outlet, northface only outlet).

hmm not really sure what you mean that i prefer form over function....If you are referring to me liking my 1911 over a glock and liking Kimber over other brands, that is personal comfort decision and a trusted name decision. i hate the feel of glock style guns in my hand...and i don't want to trust my life to a Taurus 1911 when Kimber has proven to be a realiable 1911 for years.

And sometimes off label stuff is garbage. I've purchased 2 cabela's fishing rods with cabelas baitcaster reels that were comparable to St Croix and Abu garcia....they were garbage and ended up with a St Croix rod and Abu Garcia Revo S Reel. Why St Croix has proven not to be garbage and so far so good..

Another example...my GF had a $200 Shark infinity vaccum 5 years ago...it broke in 2 years and she bought another one and we had to replace last year after it broke again..We bought a $599 Oreck Platinum Pilot + with a 20 year warranty...Best vaccum cleaner ever....$599 wasbetter then having to buy vaccum cleaners every 2 years at $200 a pop.

Sometimes you just get what you pay for....sometimes off brand stuff is ok...i buy stop and shop brand ibuprofen, mouth wash, dish soap, deorderant etc, papertowels,.(i won't skimp on the TP though).

How many people here put ebay turbo kits in there car and wished they went with a name brand turbo....i bet alot ;)

I wear carhart every day of the week but thats because my employer gives me $300 a year for cloths and thats the only real choice. I think northface jackets are nicer though

I have just a North Face hoser hat, and that set me back $50(now they're like $30, go figure). I use Columbia and Mormot apparel for outdoors since they're usually cheaper and work very well.

I don't really work outdoors much anymore but as far as work clothes, I normally use Dickies. Majority of people I work with use Carhartt.

ive bought and probably continue to wear north face because its held up well and the CS is really good. my gf's jacket had a loose thread (one of those, if you pull it, it will become undone) and it was a couple years old and they replaced it free, just had to pay shipping of course. also, i find them to be very comfortable and warm.

as for regular clothes, i wear whatever is cheap. for dress clothes and "casual" wear, i do a lot of banana republic, jcrew and kenneth cole reaction. of course i never pay retail ;-)

    Carhartt = work truck

    North face = sports car

    That about sums it up.

Those people wear Patagucci. They can afford it.

In the Northwest. Everyone wears outdoor gear. You'd get soaked otherwise.
