E and I and a couple other non-HS'ers went on a deep fishing trip this weekend.

We left friday night at about 1030 from port judith RI, and got to the spot around day break sat morning.

We took a 115' boat out with 35 people + 5-6 crew members.

I don't have too many pics, mainly because I slept a lot. lol

I had a rough time friday. Not quite sea-sick (wasn't throwing up) but it was damn close. I had to stay out side. and it was pouring rain out. it sucked. Whenever i went inside i got isntantly dizzy and had to go back out in the fresh air. I finally forced myself down into steerage to sleep and made it through the night ok. After that, I was good for the rest of the trip.... but man, that first night kicked my ass.

Sat, I was good most the day but grew a bad headache by sundown due to being in the salty sunny air all day. I did catch my fish though :) I passed out for 12 more hours after that. lol

All in all, I had a good time.
I'm not sure if i'll be doing it again, solely for the friday night sickness. Man it was aweful. :(

It's ABSOLUTELY beautiful out in the middle of nowhere.

We saw some whales. I tried to get movies/pics of them, but my camer is just too slow (takes 2-3 secs to start recording...) so if you see the splashes in the movies, that was the whall landing from its popout Shamu style :D
Captain said he hasn't seen that in 20 years of commerical fishing this area. So, it was a rare and awesome site to see.

Dolphins led us out and we saw more around the fishing banks.

The fish on the floor is what I cought.
    ~35 lb albacore.

Most of the fish cought were 30-50 lbs tuna. Everyone on the boat got at least one, so all in all it was a good trip.

I'll be doing 1-by-1 pics per post to keep it easy to follow.

first on thi post is the rough map of where we were. They don't allow gps on the baot, nor tell you exactly, due to keeping their lively hood in check, but thats the rough guess. mostly south from port and a little east.
~7-8 hours at 15-ish or so knots.

E, modeling off the 'cod piece' as he called it.

it's really a rod holder to help you get leverage on the pole.
reeling in a 40lb fish is NO easy task.

    The whales.

I wish my cam was faster at starting. i missed the good stuff at the beginning, but they weren't doing it but every 10 min or so, and I only have a 32 mb sd card for my cam.

I was told it was a sperm whale.

    E got excited. :(

    and finally, my fish :D

i didn't get many actual 'fishing' pics because i was either sleeping, sick, or there was simply no fish around :(
but then when the action hit, it HIT.

nothing for 4 hours, then bam, 8 on at once! lol no time to snap pics when everyone is scrambling around to get them in the boat.

    So, like i said...

    I had a good time.
I'm 50/50 on if i'll be going again.

    Friday sickness killed me :(
and at nearly $700 bucks for 25 lbs of filted fish albacore, it's certainly not cost/profit effective. lol ($450 for the boat + sat night prime rib meal + fuel surcharge $50 in my fuel to and from the port, $100 ish in food, $100+ in misc fishing items, etc etc, $40 for tip for the crew who did a great job and also filted our fish/deheaded/de-guts etc)

The views were worth it. Seeing the whales was awesome.

I think it's something everyone should do at least once. Maybe twice.
We'll see about next year... I have till fed to decide when sign ups come around.

    price FTL
4 dudes snoring and puking all night in tight quarters FTL

20-odd pounds of albacore filet in my freezer FTW

the cons are out weighing the pros at this point. But it was a good time. I'm glad I went. just not sure at this point if i'll be going out again next year.

Omg the second picture in your 7th post B is amazing. I think I've found a new desktop background. I just have to Gimp it to the right size for my screen first.

So many questions. Yes, I am a HS OG. Brian send me an IM bragging about his fishing trip. I have grey rep because I haven't been active on the board since it was switched over to vBulletin and implemented the rep system.
