Do you do your self your Oil Change? Or you go to the garage and let them do it?

Wich is less expensive? Do it your self, or go to a garage?

I say do it yourself, because i use to install and repair the oil equipment that they use at oil change places and dealerships to change your oil , and the majority of the time that you have to repair the equipment it is because there is shit clogged in the oil lines. Also the tanks that they store there oil in are usaully not locked/secured so anyone can walk up and dump crap into the tanks(ie the guy that just got fired, etc.. ) also the majority of the people that change oil at quick lubes, not all , but most are idiots. So do it yourself and save your car.

P.S: many times i have seen paper and other grit in the tanks that they store there oil in, it is not uncommon

i do it myself, and i had a bad experience with jiffy lube a while back. they stripped my drainbolt and used silicone to keep it from unscrewing AND DIDNT TELL ME ABOUT IT. i found out from another shop i took it to to get my oil changed. DO NOT TRUST JIFFY LUBE! at least they fixed it without charge (installed a special bolt/thread thing). also, they used to ALWAYS overfill my oil by about 1/2 a quart even when i asked them not to. i do it myself from now on. if youre gonna get it done, go to a small independent shop with a decent rep. you'll pay less than those rip off "oil change only" places and they usually do a good job.

i always do it myelf

about a year ago, when i had my car slammed on 18's, i hung my header and oilpan at jiffylube on that raised-up shit around the bay, and broke my header, and put a huge dent in my d-series oilpan. the whole time, the guy was sittin there goin "come on dude, you've got like 3 inches of clearance! you've got it!"

fuck jiffy lube, and fuck lettin anyone else change your oil.

I know it's easy, i've done it before. Just wanted to know if it was less expensive do it your self.

Thanks everyone!

no really fuck jiffey lube i spent 25 mins yest fixing one of there fuck up

JUST SO YOU YOU JIFFY GUYS KNOW VISE GRIP IS NOT A WRENCH SIZE

Do it yourself, that way you know it was done correctly......

I buy my own mobil one in cases (from a distru my company uses for to get a discount)
and I buy my oil filters 3 or more at a time from honda ( to get a price break)

and I drop my car off with the auto/race shop next door and pay them $10 (it helps when you're a good aquaintence hence the price) to change my oil. can't beat the price and I don't have to get dirty

I've always wondered and this seems like an appropriate place to ask... how much are you supposed to put in? how much would make it too much? i assume its different for different engines, but i always put in about 3.5-3.75 qts into my b18c1. is that too much? too little?

As far as how much oil to add....I know F-series engines require 4.5 quarts and H-series engines take 5 quarts. Not sure about B-series. I'd assume around 4 or 4.5 quarts. Whatever gets the oil level to the top of the dipstick, right? :)

I did it myself on my Geo, but my Escorts filter was behind the starter on the firewall side of the engine. and I couldn't reach it very well.

I do that shit myself.

1. Its cheaper

2. You do not have to worry about anyone fucking with your shit besides yourself!

3. You do not have to worry about some else putting to much oil in your car!!! Rember?

do it urself, even tho most shops charge close to what it takes to do it urself, its just nice to know it was done right.

do it yourself i use synthetic oil and K&N filter and its still around the same price as the places charge to use plain oil
