A toddler was seriously injured Tuesday when his father crashed his motorcycle with the child in his lap, according to Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.
Jamie R. Cargile, 23, took his son, Tyrique, who is 2 years and 11 months old, for a ride on his motorcycle in the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lives in the 1300 block of Southeast Ellsworth Road, according to police.
At about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, witnesses told police that Cargile's 2003 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle drove up over a curb and hit a fence. Both Cargile and the boy were thrown from the motorcycle and tumbled along with it until it slid into a fence.
The boy suffered a fractured skull, according to the police report.
Kapp said he also had facial injuries and "road rash" abrasions on his chest.
The child was in serious condition Wednesday night at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
Officer Stephen Capellas, a traffic unit investigator, responded to the accident.
The case will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for possible criminal charges, Kapp said.
Jamie Cargile, who suffered multiple abrasions, had consumed "intoxicants" before the crash, the report said.
