I am pretty sure the square hole is for your master cylinder and boot. It connects with your clutch fork and throw out bearing...at least that's where mine went, but I have a ys1 on a b16

so, i decided to do engine harness myself

I think, I can do the mpfi/vtec convertion by myself. I already have the ecu jumper that is the hardest part. the rest is just adding 2 extra wires for the extra fuel injectors and of course adding extra wire for all the other engine plugs , is it? what do you guys think?

Just to add my .2 cents..
in order to complete an OBD1 conversion you need these parts and might just be redundant info:

OBD1 P28 ecu

OBD1 D16Z6 distributor

OBD1/OBD2 4-wire 02 sensor (which the motor should come with)

OBD0-OBD1 jumper harness converter
This harness has a sub-harness which makes it easy for you to wire in the 4-wire 02 sensor, VTPS, VTS, and IAB (for GSR engine).

You CAN technically reuse your existing OBD0 injectors w/resistor box as these parts are compatible with the P28 ecu, or you can delete the resistor box and convert over to OBD1 injectors repinning to OBD1 injector clips.

Rywire should be able to make the wiring aspect of this swap fairly easy for you.
But hearing that you own a DPFi model EF is discouraging as those cars arent so fun to convert over to MPFi...

what's up katman, I checked out rywire and the wire harness for my car cost like $300.00 and I have to send them my harness, I find that to be too high, I would pay that kind of money if they would make it a no core exchange.

I already have the harness from the vtec engine , if I am not mistaken all I have to do is take the injector cables from the vtec harness and use them with my obd harness.

I also need to swicth the TPS wires around.

I also would need to run some cables from the ecu to the engine bay to connect the extra wires for the fuel injectors.

I also have to run the cables that came with the ecu jumper to the engine and connect the vtec wires.

What else would I need to do?

Thxz. I have a question about the wiring, I know I have to run two cables from the ecu to the engine bay for the new injectors and use the ones that came with the engine for the others, but where do the yellow/black wire go. can I just connect them all together or do I have to run a new cable from the y/b cables back to the ecu?

out with the old in with the new

whats up honda lovers! I little update so far I took the old engine out and getting the new engine ready to be install. I also finish the wire harness .guys take a look at the harness and tell me what you guys think. Here are some pics.

Very nice! You're not putting the timing belt cover on?

It sounds like your throw-out bearing is gone. If your're using an S40 tranny, which I believe is out of the 96-00 Civic, the throw-out bearings are notorious for going. It happened in mine and my buddy's Civic (both 97 Civic hatches). That's my guess. Good luck.
