how to identify transmission

So my mechanic threw in a 5spd transmission on my standard '90 3dr hatchback.. it's been a while and don't have the opportunity to talk to the mechanic anymore.. can someone help me identify exactly what kinda of transmission it is? Is there a stamp or something that I can look for? I've seen articles identify transmissions from the inside, but I can't do that here.

there should be a sticker on the front of the tranny right by where it meets the block..it should be gold

Oh really I didn't kno there was a way to identify itthats good to kno what side will it be on ?

its right where the housing connects to the engine.

All 4th gen d-series transmissions are going to say L3 and a series of numbers. theres only one sure way to figure out what you've got.

if i had to guess i would say he probably just dropped a dx tranny in there.
