so. ive been a hobby photographer for about 5 years and loved taking pics with my dads old Pentax SLR. and since ive gotten my Sony DSC-P72 have taken quite a few shots, but never had the control that i did with the SLR. and ive been mulling over the idea of gettin a dSLR for a while but price has kept me away.

the start of my search back in October

im taking a digital photography course this 1/4 and have decided its now or way way way later. i have the money, so chargin it isnt a deal, but the trouble comes with if i get a dSLR, then i will be tossing both my wheel fund, coilover fund, and CD player fund, right out the window.

im a very frugal person, and spending $1000 on anythign is a huge deal for me, so either way its a tough choice. i really love photography, but i really love my 240.

help me out.

i say get the camera because you will have more enjoyment using it than you would wheels and a cd player. perhaps IF you have any money leftover, you could get a cd player for your car??

i say get the SLR. One of my exs (still talk to) has a dSLR and its friggin amazing. Makes me giddy every time i hold it.

you can make money of the camera.
you can't make money off wheels.

use the camera to pay for your wheels. :) shoot some porn :p

digital SLR boobs FTW!

:werd: Some say a good photo is worth a 1000 words, well they also know its worth 1000 bucks if its someone famous or someone that could be famous that is nude.

hmm, even more important than all the above... think long term

is 10 years the car will prob be gone, the wheels curb checked to shit, and the cd player extinct...

but in 10 years you can still look at all the pics you took with this camera and get the enjoyment over and over again for the next 60+ years...

plus it would be nice to have the camera you really want when taking a photo course...
this could be the start of something new, perhaps a career opportunity where you love going to work and love your job...

take the chance, get the camera :)

The Camera says: "VOTE FOR ME"

SLR FTW. You can make some of your money back for sure, just shoot a couple weddings or Prom pictures.

I just got the Rebel XT and I can say, it is one damn fine camera. I'm new to DSLR's so I'm still learning, but once I have all the optimal settings down, its going to open a whole new world for me.

sweet, that seals the deal. dSLR it is.

now comes the hard part

Nikon D50 (cheaper, adjustable timer delay, feels better in hands)
Canon Rebel XT (more expensive, but seems like relevant features are easier to access)

I like the Rebel too...BOY HOWDY do i like the rebel.

wheels, cd player, and coilovers will provide a better resale value. so therefor you get more return in the long run if you decide you want the camera at a later date, you can sell the wheels and still get the camera.

bahahhaha, when's the last time you tried to sell used parts?

or when's the last time you bought used parts?

all the above will sell for less than half their original purchase price, even if you didn;t even take them out of the box...

I would go for the camera,

Get the one that you like the best. I personally use the canon on a daily basis (yearbook adviser) and absolutely love it. I have also heard about Nikons being great too. I will say this search the web for online deals. I found an xt with a ton of accessories and cases for like 899.99. I would have bought it but i didn't have the cash at the time.

Here's few i found in like 2 min.

My girlfriend and her mom are VERY big into photography. She's won national contests and stuff. She uses a Nikon. Her mom has a Nikon Digital camera, but I don't know what kind exactly. They both love them. My advice is do some research and find a good camera. If you don't end up spending a full $1000 then  to you.
