first i have a d15b7 thats cherry, stripped down to be rebuilt but never finished...second i recently acquired a D16y8 recently for cheap and running...and third i have a D16A1 sitting dead in a rusted out integra

D15B7 Bottomend
D16Y8 Head
D16A1 Pistons

now the question, has anyone done this build? Should the Y8 gasket be ok or will clearance be an issue?? i can find some info but nothing with all three. just wondering if this is more trouble than its worth but i was going to be dropping the d16y8 in my 92 civic either way cuz my current 1.5 is fucked, so i have to swap out ecu's and i have the 1.5 sitting there so mini-me sounds like a great option..and then i remember hearing something about the d16a1 pistons being high compression and figured i have it all jus sitting there! so why not? right?

thoughts? comments? complaints?

i actually do have that year integra so thats why i'm thinking about it but this seems to be some uncharted territory as far as finding info on it, i've heard somewhere on some thread and thru a friend that those pistons should drop in as a nice upgrade but he wasn't sure about them with the combo of that head.

ok so i was checking out some numbers and we all know the bore is the same on all D's but the stroke is 84.5 for the D15B7 and 90 for the D16Y8, so if the pistons work, i'll need to use the D15B7's rods yes?

Yes always match the rods with the crank, unless using custom pistons.

what about rings? peeps at d-series don't seem to know, they're guessing d16A1 rings most likely..anyone know for sure?

lol so thats why it disappeared the first time! lol damn the man...

thanks again blanco, never been this deep into engines

tore open the integra today...they were covered in shit but wiped clean and thankfully no noticeable damage :D
...yet...

ok well i was looking over the D16Y8 head and i already knew this motor was yanked in a hurry with things cut all over like the distributor, but didn't notice this wire above the vtec...is this something i can just throw some kinda connector and solder it or do i need a junk yard or parts store?

ok i'm trying a D16Z6 with p29's right now and the first run was not good. i had a 12.03 : 1 CR and was pinging on 93 octan fuel. need 4 bottles of octan booster for it to stop pinging. also your combo is looking at 12.96 : 1 CR if you use a D15B7 Head Gasket. and 13.45 : 1 CR with a D16Y8 HG. i'm looking into seein if i can shave the dome off mine so i can get closer to 11.5:1 CR as i would like to run on Pump gas. but if this is a track only car then hell use the d15b7 HG. and go for broke.

Also i found that if you going to go for a high CR it is a VERY good idea to get a 3 angle grind on the valves so thay will seat and a cam is a must. i would suggest at least getting better springs so you don't suck a valve

wow, haven't been here in awhile!

ok so your the first to have mention this section of problems but no one thinks i'll have that high of compresion because how much lower they sit. I, truthfully, haven't done any calculations. Also I haven't heard of anyone having problems with 12:1 compression.

Do you think the fuel issues could be resolved with a fuel system up grade? ie pump, regulator, rail, and injectors?

Love any info on this build or type of build. This thing is almost finished and ready to drop in!

Here's the link to D-series where i've been keeping track of it a lil

I'm disappointed. I opened up this thread expecting to see some hot D-Series porn, heh heh. :D

Good luck on your build dude.

the problem is not fuel delivery it's the quality we have now. when ppl could still get 110 octan at the pump you could build a 14.5:1 CR motor no problem. when the octan whent down thay added crap to the gas and it was more unstable then it was ever before. this instablity means the fuel will detonait befor the spark plug fire's . this is only a calculated guess as with out biulding the motor and blueprinting it there is no way to be for 100% what the CR will be unless some one ealse has the same biuld and did the blueprinting.

I hope it works out well and you can run pumpgas but you will most likely have to run 93 octan all the time. if it will run pump gas at all.

well i always run 93 octane that won't be a problem. You should check out some more of the forums because i've seen other guys that say their running around 12 to 1 with no problem.
