more torque

as you may have read i havea rover 216 with the D16A6 engine, i want some more torque as when motorway crusing i really have to plan well in advance any overtaking im doing. how can i improve torque (preferebly cheaply)

I would get a V8 if your looking for torque (that was a half serious/half smart ass comment).

Turbocharge
Higher compression pistons
VTEC head (just more high end power, not really low end torque)
Swap camshaft

i'd say FI is your best bet on more torque. look into superchargers...instant torque and instant throttle response = mad torque...nitrouse isn't an everyday thing just to put some input on it!
