Yeah so...similar to my switch to T-Mobile(phone comes in today)...wife and I looked at other expenses just to try to cut back so we can save more...and looked at cars....She has a Nissan Rogue and only wants an SUV and there really isn't anything else out there getting better gas mileage than hers so she's decided to stick with hers.
I went to a bunch of different dealers....its tough trading in a truck but after grueling hours this weekend up until about an hour ago....I ended up with a Black 2014 BMW 328 Diesel Xdrive, premium pkg, nav package and cold weather package.... Lowered my payment $10 a month but the big savings is in the gas. 38MPG vS 14MPG 15 gallon tank VS 29 gallon tank. I always used 93 Oct for the truck going to Diesel is no bigger...it's actually the same as 93 around where I get gas 3.99 for D vs 3.99 for 93 Oct.
I filled up 36 times over 12 months. At about $4/G that's about $3016.
Figuring the same commute at 38MPG(which people are getting on fuelly.com), I'm looking at 16 fuel ups at $60 a pop at $4/G which is about $960 in fuel. That's $2065 a year in gas savings.
I also get all my maintenance for 4 years(3 year lease though), oil, wipers, brakepads, rotors, etc... which I do not get on the Titan which is some savings there as well. Some quick math indicates some savings of about $38/m over 36 months.
So over all with the cell phone and car switch...I am looking at about $240/m savings...not bad...
Ok flame on over getting a BMW...go..
