I loved the enormous amount of desktop space, especially for rendering programs and the fact that I never had anything minimized. What's pictured there is Celestia, a 3d space simulator. You should check it out, pretty damn cool B)

Nah, the amount of RAM isn't the problem- I just don't like unnecessary stuff running on my machine.

It's not about not having enough RAM... it's about using up resources on something that I'll never see anyway. I've got tons of PC3500 in my machine, and I just don't want to eat up 10 megs on something that's always covered up.

I'm pretty sure explorer releases any memory used by the background image if it's needed... One of the reasons it takes forever to display the background image again after dropping out of a memory/swapfile intensive application.
