just yesterday I found out that the fuel cut for my ctr is 125. I hit vtec in 5th and was around 7300 rpms and was pulling well when the fuel cut out, need to get that fixed!!!!

5th gear at 7300 is only 125???

why is that hard to believe? when I am cruising along at 90 i am usually at like 5400rpm . my vtec engages at 6400..... I got up to 129 with my buddy driving today, we had enough pulling power that we got that far after the fuel cut.

driving
83 mustang gt 140+ (speedo)
92 pontiac bonneville 115

2002 vette 140

The speedo doesn't read too acurately after like 70 mph....

thats some what true.. if you change the rims/tires the speedo is off.. speedo is a good guesstimate, but to be really sure, you need a laser or a radar.. but most of the time oem speedos are pretty good..

I nailed 130 before I got scared in my "new" 2000 SI on Monday evening after I picked the car up from the dealer. The funny thing was, I had dealer plates on it when I went for it.

The best way to tell is to do math. If you know what RPM you were at, use our spedometer acuracy spread sheet in the articles section and that will tell you your true speed. It puts your wheel size and gearing into the formula.

I hit 142 in a 91 saab non turbo, 128 in a acura integra ls, 148 on a 84? honda interceptor, and 152 in a volkswagen golf gti vr6 (has to be one of the faster stock non turbo 6 bangers I've ever riddin in). o yea 105 in my sohc saturn (fuel cutoff) I hate that car. After I finish puttin in my ls in my 92 hatch, I'll post again!

Buried the needle at 108 mph (180 km/h) in my parents Toyota Previa.

Heh, just finished moving into my apartment and eager to get home.

Very paranoid though while trying to do it... especially since it took so long.

Last night I took the 87 CRX Si up to 5th gear, 5800 rpm (Speedo buried at 125) I would have to assume a few mph over that.

155 in a 4 door Civic DX? You know, 125 is pretty f*ckin' fast. You sure you did 155?

Its not really fast, all hondas with a b16 and some mods easily reach 150mph.

What all you guys got with "125 mph are fast".
You all would be scared as hell in germany, you just go along on the left lane with lets say 140, then you notice some xenon lights behind you that are coming nearer FAST, since there only 2 lanes and traffic is on the right lane, you cant go to a side, then you just hear some tires screaming as the porsche brakes just behind you, thats NORMAL. Oh yeah i forgot, our lanes are a lot tighter then yours are, i think 2m (6feet) is the maximum on the "autobahn".
I really thought you do some high speed runs too, when you never hit 200mph in any car, you REALLY missed something

my dad just bought a bmw z3 2.8 (6-cyl). it has a claimed top speed of 135mph  i'll take their word for it :D

 Damn, the US gets ripped.

Perhaps the idea of 150 mph gets lost in the metric conversion.

I'm going to be bold and say that no stock honda (Barring perhaps the NSX) can do 150 mph. In any country. That's REALLY f*ckin fast. I mean 150 mph is 246 KM/H.

You mention something about doing 200 mph, but I also tend to believe that only a handful of people have done this speed. 200 mph, while possible, is a difficult goal to acheive even in a McLaren F1.

did i say stock? no.
all ee8/9 reach the redline in 5th with just an intake an exhaust
eg2,6,9/ek4 etc. reaches redline in 5th with some more mods (header, fuel pressure regulator, intake, exhaust)

now some calculating of the top speed when redlining a b16 (redline 8000upm, rev limiter 8250upm):
fifth is 0.848, final is 4.401, correct me if im wrong
so 3,732048:1 gearing, 2143,5951 tire upm @ 8000 engine upm
1,99742meter equal one tire spin, 4281,6697 meters per minute @ 8000upm
equals 256900,1825 meters per hour (257kmh)
that would even above 150mph, more like 155mph, which mentioned steve (?) before

so thats no bullshit

oh yeah, a mclaren f1 btw does 391kmh, which closer to 250mph than to 200mph
and 300kmh isnt that special, a bmw 330 chipped does almost 300kmh.
almost every porsche does it
200mph is 320kmh, right?
we often do high speed "testing" here, so i know what im talking about

ya know.... i was thinking..... most in ground dyno's have speedo's.... why not take it to one and put your car on and tell them to go as fast as it will go... much safer B)

safer but not as nearly as accurate. My car is geared to like 150 or something like that but I can only reach 130 on the highway. This is not because the engine is incapible of going 150, it is because the areodynamics/drag of the car limits the speed. It's kinda like a terminal velocity of an object, true, in a vacume, anything could just keep on going faster and faster in free fall but there is a point in the real world that makes humans "top out" at 160-200 when jumping out of an airplane. When your on a dyno, it's very difficult to take that into account. Hell, you could top out your car by lifting the front end up, put it in fifth, then floor it. You'll hit top speed faster then most cars get upto 30mph.

Good point... i forgot to think about the drag and areo's of a car.... :worthy:
