What's your winter beater?

Well, the time is almost upon us, and the nice cars are becoming less and less common on the roads. It's kind of funny, but you can actually see the drop in nice cars an increase in shitmobiles around this time of year. I thought about driving the AllTrac this winter, but shit always happens in the snow, and I don't want shit to happen to the AllTrac. That, and I hear Teins don't take too kindly to salt. So, I've kind of had my ear to the ground for the past six months or so... everything from Metros to Corolla AllTracs to Geo Prisms... then I came across my $100 dreamcar. Well, not really, since I don't take it too seriously, but hey, $100, what do you want? So the story behind it is this- a couple from GA came up here to VT for the Phish show (shudder) back in August. It's an automatic, and their kickdown cable froze. They thought they blew the tranny, but in reality, the transmission was thinking they were driving around at WOT and was being prevented from shifting out of first. So they abandoned the vehicle at where I work. I inquired about it, and was told $100. I spent about an hour freeing up the kickdown cable, and that fixed it. It has new brakes, tires, alternator, starter, fresh fluids, and being from GA, it has no rust to speak of. It has 231K miles, and other than worn front shocks, drives like new and is VERY comfortable and relaxing to drive. What is it? An '85 Toyota Vanwagon Conversion. It started life as a cargo van, but was turned into a conversion van. It has rear AC and heat (both work, too!), and the rear most seat folds down into a bed! Yes, it's a shitpile, but it's probably the best $100 I ever spent. Pics will ensue when I get around to it. It'll be available for public viewing in a few weeks in CT.

:cliffs:
I'm every father of a teenage girl's worst nightmare- a guy that drives a van with a bed in the back. :D

2000 Civic Si.

goddamn I hate being poor... I'd probably have another Escort or a Neon if I could get a beater. :(

Let me correct that statement : In better terms, I would rather spend my money on massages with full release than a second car. :)

Hey Ji, you might find some good drugs in that old wagon , lol.
I can only imagine how many vehicles were left behind at the concert grounds. It was muddy. [attachmentid=21] and I had my CRX there, it was voted by many the worst car to have had on site.

but not to get off topic,
I have an 88 Chevy C1500 pickup for the winter, best pof all it was Free, my parents gave it to me.

I live in CA but I got teh supa tight '88 Mercury Cougar for $900. Shit brown and I hacksawed off the rusted exhaust. It sounds like it's a 454....

Ji, I have ran one winter with my teins with zero problems, and I am here in michgan where M-DOT uses the 1:1 rule. For one inch of snow, put down one inch of salt. The only thing I have ever done to them is before I installed them, I got a jar of antiseize and coated the threads with them. This spring when I went to lower it again, I didn't have any problems moving them.

As for what I am driving here in Houghton Michigan (Upper penninsula) a shitty old 1995 Honda del Sol w/GSR equipted Blizzak snow tires.

i'm very jealous of the gsr equipped beaters...

but i'll still own you with my 4x4

muhahhahahahaha
