on a lighter note, the BEST job i ever had was when i was 16 and working @ Chateau liquor in torrance (anza and sepulveda)  the old chineese guy who owned the place let me jack free beer, cigs, dip and porn mags to my little hearts content.

plus i got paid 5.00 an hour!!!!!    which was ALOT of money way back in 1991.

and i also got to feed his 3 1/2 foot long arrowana live mice and fish.  that was dope.

i miss my old buddy Dave.  good lookin out wherever u are homie. :D

dude, that place rocks.
i remember back in high school we used to go over there and he would never ID us for anything. he would just ask us how old we were and if we said 21 then he would sell it to us even if we looked 16 or 17.
it almost brings a tear to my eye just thinking about thatr place again. ^_^

ya i miss him, great guy. too bad he sold it to those middle eastern guys. they really fucked it up and turned it into a
high class liquor store. i bet there isnt one rat running around that store like there used to be when i worked there.

u remember the street fighter game he had in there that had the chip in it?

think it was called "turbo street fighter" or some shit.....

street fighter > all other video games

but not that marvel vs. capcom bullshit.

ill beat ANYONE in street fighter 1, with guile and invisible throw and prison lock

I'm an electrician apprentice and currently sit in class m-f 7a-3:330p for free until oct 1st thats on top of the 3+ hours of homework i have a night.  I have no life and make no money it really blows

from one EX-electrician to a young apprentice....

GET THE FUCK OUT !!!!!!

im 27, i started working as an electrician for the city (nepotism 0wnz)
when i was 21. My back is completely shot from lifting the
pulling gear, 150# wire reels, and what not.

back when i was working i was 6'3 (still am now haha) and 210# (i lost some weight since i quit)
top pyhsical condition. 4 years later i had to go on disability for a while due to the fact my back got comepletely fucked
up from working that shit.

unless you are working some cush job installing lights for poor housewives, do you self and your back a favor and
find something else to do. yes the money is good. yes you are in the outdoors and in the sunshine. but look @ every older
electrician who has worked heavy manual labor in his lifetime and listen to their health problems.

1) asbestos. depending on where you are working....this is a MAJOR concern.
2) lead in the paint of older houses/buildings....so ur drilling some test holes, and get some paint chips on your clothes. no biggie right? you go home (assuming u will or do have kids) and your kids run up to you and yell DADDY DADDY, and hug you.....lead in paint transfers from your clothes to their young immature systems and can potentially cause prolbems.
3) like crawling? lol 'nuff said. its always nice to be greeted by a dead decaying cat right @ 6am when you are crawling under a building first thing in the morning.

4) conduit? fun stuff.

ok, thats all i can think of right now.....im getting pissed as i write this post from remembering all the bullshit i went through
sorry, im just jaded from my old job, thats why i quit it to go back to school.

were you union? MY father and grandfather are both electricians and I've been helping my dad with side work for a long time, I dont mind the work at all. Either way it got me out of selling cell phones which sucked ass and it pays way better. I get an associates degree when i finish and am taking extra classes so by the time i finish my apprenticeship i will have a bachelors degree in construction management and be an a card electrician. It just sucks right now since i bust ass and get no money

sorry bro, i was a SCAB.

city job, dad knew peeps who owed him favors.....
im in, paid 28.00 an hour with on the job training lol.

we only did basic shit, i.e. wire pulls, light install, panel changes, shit like that.

flame away

lol, thats why you get shitty working conditions, we don't lug around heavy ass shit thats what the laborers are for ;) If you're going to do construction union is the only way to go, otherwise you get stuck in the worst palces taking care of shit that is hazardous

I used to pre-wire house's and it was the worst job i ever had, crawling under house's having racoons and shit coming after you, dead rats in the attic, and all the shit you have to cary around. It was no fun at all, and my back is so fucked up. Trust me its not worth it.

wellllllllllllllllllll i only gave u the negative aspects of working civil service.

true, i did work on average 60 or so hours per week. and when there was work to be done,
i did bust my ass.

but, there were the titty bar 2 hour lunches with the supervisor.
18-pack beer fridays
pers (public employees retirement system......0wnz a 401k)
3 weeks vacation
7.00 a mile paid
full medical and dental
bosses who didnt care what we did so long as the work for the day was done.

and we did have laborers per se.....but those little fuckers were unionized and we
couldnt push them around for shit.

other than that, im glad im gone. my back is hurting right now as im typing this.

Ihave the shittiest job of you all. Im a HONEY DIPPER. Although its a family biz and we make a ton of loot from the plantations and different islands its still shitty. I started a mobile import biz. but closed cuz we are on call 24-7. Life sux

Yeah, my dad runs a very succesfull siding business with no help of the unions. His work has been in magazines and stuff, all over the place. Last month's seattle magazine for lighting, a house he did was in there, but yeah he says eff the union, waste of 140 a month when you are your own boss.
