carb to FI conversion in 84 Hatch -- which tank?

I am in the process of planning an engine swap in my carb'd '84 Hatchback race car and have read everything I can get my eyes on online (and two printed books), but still have a questions on the source parts for the FI conversion.

I've lined up an '88 Integra as the donor car, but will the fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel lines fit into the hatchback? If not, what are some better donor cars for these parts? Our current car is stripped out so I would think that access to everything should be pretty easy... Can the lines be made from auto store fuel hose?

The only rule we have to comply with is money: we have a $275 budget for this conversion and the integra cost us ~$200... (this is a 24 hours of LeMons car with a blown stock engine)

If you have any other tips and/or suspension stuff for sale, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks, Bill

a tank from a 87 si should be your best bet.in fact there is a wreaked one that just came in to a yard in mollala oregon.it also has ground control ajustable coils in the rear [torsion front of couse]and kyb struts and shocks.also the si motor and trans are compelete the front end is toast 'cept for motor/trans etc..most the stuff at this yard is cheeeep,i pickeed up a 91 ef sedan for 850 runs drives fine ass end punched a little, they gave me all the parts to fix it with sale,it only has 196xxx on it.

and no i would not use auto store hose for fuel line,it's a high pressure fuel injection line not a hose for a carb.another thing you could do is use a aftermarket fuel cell and AN- fuel lines but there expensive,if your really pressed for money hack in the integra shit and call it good.make sure it will pass the inspection for the race they won't let you in if it ain't safe.

Thanks for the tips! I don't think I can make it up to molalla oregon from the SF Bay area for just those suspension parts, but who knows?? It of course would be a drag to get there and find that they're gone... Maybe I could send you some $$ for pulling them out? :D Maybe one of my teammates wants to make a road trip up there...

Thanks! We had an absolute blast at the December Thunderhill race. Our stock motor lasted ~11 hours of the 15 before throwing a rod through the block at 242k miles... With only ~70 hp you keep your foot down 99.99999% of the time (who needs brakes!) and the engine didn't like that at its age...

After this 'Teg conversion we'll have a whoppin' 70% more power! ;) Any good tips (or links) on getting even more of the D16A1? We certainly don't need or want the smog stuff...

Thanks, and I'll let you know. We'll try to work with what we have first, and the local yards have dozens of similar cars here in CA.

Off topic: anyone know why my thread subscription might not be working? I get no emails even though my address is correct and I've got a sub for intant emails...

 prob the 89 hatch if I can ever get it running right, would love to get a old crown vic cop car though

I found an '88 SI hatch in my local yard. Same tank, right? What's the difference between the hatch and standard tanks?

I'm still interested in these suspension goodies! Let me see what we can buy our donor integra for and then we'll know our budget... I had hoped to buy it yesterday, but it got pushed out to next weekend.

it's not the right year,88 is the ef different body.the 85-87 si tank is for fuel injection, the rest are carbed models.remember 1985 thru 1987 si is fuel injection, std and "1500 S"models are carbed.the yard still has the suspension, plus they have a strut bar, they want 200$ if i pull it off the car.the 1988 tank is fuel injected but it's a different body=different tank 85-87 si is bolt in.

Thanks. We'll look around a bit more, but if we don't find an 85-87 Si it sounds like we'll need to make a road trip north! It would probably not be worth it to ship the suspension stuff, and definitely not a tank! One of my teammates wants to visit a friend in portland anyway! Is this thread the best way to reach you, or is email or PM?

It looks like I could just swap the fuel pick up from the 'Teg over to the Civic instead of sourcing a FI specific tank. Still interested in the suspension stuff though! Did you get my email?

Cheers, Bill
