Srsly, that's the only way to do it.

I wish I would have just bought a 18-200 VR instead of the 55-200VR. I'm picking up a 35mm soon, which should be rockin for just about everything with movement.

I'd do a 50mm before a 35mm. 50mm is pretty much what you see with the naked eye is what the lens gets.

My main go tos are 11-16 tonika, 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8

For cars/bikes I mostly shoot with the 11-16 for basic walking around shoot I use the 85mm for indoor shooting I use the 50mm

In order to get a zoom lens with the quality the $300-400 50mm and 85mm packs you'd have to spend well over a grand. Even then you'd still have maybe a 2.8. =( I love being able to shoot in low light, I bet the baby picture posted by B16 would have looked ok even with no added light if he had a 1.8 or 1.4 lens.

Zoom lenses are over rated unless you're shooting a game or people/wild life from far away. use an 85mm lens and crop the picture.

Almost every picture in that album was taken with the 85mm

Here are some pictures from my recent trip to San Francisco. I don't own an SLR but am looking to get one before I go to Tokyo/Hong Kong in March.

I don't have any skills in taking photos...as a matter of fact I think I suck at it, but I like sharing photos of places I've been. Everything was shot with a Lumix DMC-ZS3.

actually, i find the 50mm to be a little inconvenient on my xti.
its a little to close up for my liking, i usually have to back off a lot to get the whole picture.
on a full frame camera it would be absolutely perfect, but on our APS-C its too close for me.
a 35mm is equivalent 56mm on a full frame camera.
the 50mm comes out to 80mm.

i wish i had bought a 35 before the 50, but theres always another time.
what i really want is some wide angles. but those get pretty pricey for a good one.

and budda, im not too far out of ohio, i may make a weekend trip up there once the weather warms up, interested in doing a little photog weekend to some deserted places?

chow fun and Cantonese style chow mein FTW

The first dish is actually Thai, Pad See Ew, but definitely has a hint of Chinese in the dish. Both were quite delicious;

I only wish I had more time to explore some of the other areas of town. We walked through Little Saigon, but didn't have a chance to stop for anything. I was hoping to at least have a Banh Mi sandwich or bowl of Bun Dac Biet or something.

When were you there? I was in San Francisco December 26-January 4th. :D

I've got pictures, but they were taken with my girlfriends Rebel... I was pretty unfamiliar with it. I should upload a few

I was just there last weekend. I just realized on Wednesday that I had Monday off work, so I bought a ticket and flew on Friday. We stayed at the Westin St. Francis in Union Square.

Got a new camera yesterday. Canon PowerShot SD960 IS Digital ELPH. Pretty nice for a point and shoot digital, but still, it is what it is. Got it on sale. Usually 280. I got it for 220.

I havent messed with tuning it too much but I like how this pic turned out.

:werd: .. i generally dont take night shots... why you ask? well, because i suck at them.. i can only do it if i have my tripod

dont have the money for a 50mm f1.2 or else i'd have one.. lol.. i have my 14-45mm Olympus kit lens and my 40-150mm ED lens.. so i gotta work w/ what i got.. lol.. which isnt much

get some lenses with image stabilization.
when i bought my 17-85mm with IS, i was extremely surprised with how much it actually helped with low light situations.
now, it wont do much for action shots because its f3.5max. but, i love it and it makes an excellent walk around lens.

this is a shot of my buddy running out at Buttonwillow
