So, my first car was a prelude. And I fell in love. Ever sense I've had to be an adult and get in my feet so no prelude and no fast cars. But now I have the money. So I want to buy an h22a and build it. They come stock with 200hp so I was thinking 400 all motor. But I know little about this stuff. I know what parts need to be upgraded and to an extent I know what they do and what makes them better if they are after market. I'd just like some guidance, anything would be much appreciated. Mostly I'd like to know what I'd want to put in it, how it would help, and if I'm gonna hit my mark. Also I have experience working on engines but nothing more than common issues. But again, I know it's a lot to ask but anything is great. Thanks I'm advance
 
Welcome to Hondaswap ! Can you make 400hp N/A on a h22 ? Yes ... should you ? IMO No , it would literally require a full engine build , pistons/head work/cams/bolt ons, or slap a quality turbo setup on it for like 1500-2k and make 400 reliably and get better mpgs when babying it
 
I'm with dildobeck. A turbo setup will get you to where you want to be for cheaper, and will actually be more streetable/daily drivable than a 400 horse all motor H22, assuming that it's put together well with decent quality parts and tuned.
 
People dont really understand chp vs whp or math often , the 200hp # for a h22 not only is 20+ years ago when healthy and new but its a crank horsepower #, its more realistic 160-170 whp (being generous) , to make 250WHP na with it would be a struggle alone with bolt ons and cams and tune thats a 80hp gain over stock , to make 400whp you are literally almost making 130% more power if not more than the factory, power adders make it easy and arent complicated as you think

Right, and I also think that sometimes people don't even realize how much power would be appropriate for a specific chassis. Like you said, stock H22 in good working order is putting down maybe 160-170 wheel hp. Upping that to maybe 300 crank, 250 going to the ground on a small, front drive car is going to be a huge difference.

A 400 horsepower naturally aspirated Prelude would probably not even be that fun to drive on the street. Wheel spin like crazy and very high strung. I'd much rather a well-tuned turbo setup putting down 250-300 horses. That's still streetable, yet fun.

If I went the turbo route, other than the obvious parts like tubing, oil lines, the turbo, a manifold, an intercooler, and a tune. What else would I be looking at

a 300 WHP 90s honda civic/accord/prelude chassis is dumb quick and fun
 
generally speaking turbo manifold, turbo, wastegate, some kind of turbo timer, a wideband, a chipped/tuned ecu , intercooler, intercooler piping , oil cooler never hurts, catch can setup , downpipe, prob forgetting other stuff but there are full bolt on turbo kits for the engine and chassis
 
The turbon kit AND injectors. Stock bottom end.....1000cc injectors....but you could go bigger and lower duty cycle.
