i was in las vegas for the week for work and got a 2023 corolla LE rental car with 46k miles. it was terrible. we put about 105 miles on the car.

so the car itself just feels very cheap. no confidence inspiring CHUNK when you close the doors, the auto\eco had anemic highway acceleration and shuddered when stopped; and the auto braking was crazy! it would try to slow the car fast from a large distance but it would never come to a complete stop on its own. you were greeted with a large red icon and shrill beeeeeeep when you got close to any car. i did not invest any time in trying to turn it off. the steering felt extremely lifeless.

the pros? steering wheel buttons were easy to use and there were not alot of them. the windows all go up and down very quickly. when you put it in park and drive the electric parking brake engaged and disengaged on its own. i actually liked that. oh and the infotainment touch screen was flawless, smooth and FAST. wireless carplay activated quickly once the car was on and never skipped a beat. VW could learn a few things here.

great day yesterday at TSMP time trial! lit up a new personal best at this track in the damp first session vs my veloster turbo in the dry, then proceeded to absolutely wheelman the rest of the sessions in the pouring rain lol. no trouble with the car, it stayed planted and fast, no trouble with getting the brakes hot they worked perfect every session. i caught the guy in front of the me during the gridded time trial but it was still a pretty good wet time.

my new mk8 friend was there too, he picked things up pretty quickly with a little coaching. super nice older gentleman. i am really glad he found our club.

if i could have gone faster i would have, but the car would not pick up any more speed due to lack of grip. this thing will do about 110 in the dry.

ive only watched the video for the 2nd time since i posted it, all the buzzing you hear around corners is the car sliding across the tarmac on all four wheels. i probably would have had even less grip with super 200s. i am going to keep these wheels and tires for rainy track days :)

15k miles now and the season is over. Won my class but totally fucked the runoff. Already got the snows on.

Been a really great year for CART and it’s been fun being the president. Can’t wait to repeat next year.

On a more somber note, the Jetta did not win its fight with a curb and light pole. The wife is 100% OK. I will miss this car dearly.

Looking at a 21 Jetta R line manual to replace it possibly.

nice! too bad she'll likely never own a car with it thanks to the auto/ev crap of the nation now.

that's not true, they still make new jettas in manual :) wellll atleast until the 1.4t doesn't meet emissions.

ninja edit.... you can totally buy a 25 jetta in a manual, but it has to be a GLI. a 35k car o_O

I'm ok with that. The sportier model should have the sportier trans. No one wants a 1.0T or whatever nonsense it is in the basemodel as a sports car. give that crap the cvt.

EVERYTHING costs 30k these days. I can't name one car that is 'worth' owning brand new that comes in under that after you add a radio (sic).
