87 Acura D16a1 D.o.h.c

I was wondering if a D16a1 D.O.H.C from an 87 integra is worth using. Can it be easily modified. Will it swap into newer civics. Is it better than an S.O.H.C D16y 1.6. Any info someone can give me would be great.
