93 Gsr Hatch...need Help..

A friend of mine has a 93 cx hatch with a 98 gsr motor....vtec works fine in first gear in 2nd gear vtec kicks in at 8000 rpms, third gear vtec kicks in at 7000 rpms 4th gear has no vtec at all.....could this be b/c of wiring...or could vtec cut off because of running to rich...please help car sucks w/o VTEC!!

Check the wires for vtec, also the vtec solonoid.

Make sure there is enough oil in it.
