i found a jdm b18c1 gsr engine whats the difference between swapping a jdm and a usdm engine and will a jdm obd1 b18c1 pass smog and inspections in cali????
the difference between the usdm and jdm b18c1 is the compression. the jdm is 10.6:1 and the usdm is a little less. the other difference is the jdm wiring harness is righthand drive which makes a little difficulty for a swap. as far as smog goes, im not sure, if your still running cats you should be fine.
USDM is 10.2:1 I believe? Not 100% sure.
Anyway, California's emissions laws are tighter than prom night, so a full exhaust and a good catalytic converter will most likely be needed.
