This thread is for my new DD so I don't drive the CRX all the time - 1991 Tahitian Green Civic Si.
Cons:
353,XXX KMS (pretty high)
One owner (she was a pig and didn't take care of the car)
It's been very poorly maintained and burns lots of oil (took 3 liters in one day)
Came with a EW Civic radiator that was cracked/leaking (put a good one in first day)
It's been driven over the BC Rockies lots so the front end is scabbed up pretty bad from rock chips
The wheel wells and rear rockers are rusted out
The lady smoked a deer and mangled the hood
Cracked windshield and headlights
I drove it home with a 185/70/14 on one side, 185/65/14 on the other side and a doughnut on the back
Cat is badly clogged
Needs front end and brake work
The rest of the car is straight and sorta clean.
Pros:
Car was $400
Lady driven Si 5 speed and linkage - it's a silk box!
Interior was almost complete
New exhaust (but it's lammmeee....time for a straight pipe )
Notice the cons list is longer?
It made 220 PSI across on the comp test so I suspected valve seals not rings. So I stripped the head off and it was evident they we bad. I have 2-3 Si heads laying around but decided to use a spare D16Y7 head I've never used (and it has the lowest mileage).
Everything went smooth except I didn't realize I need a shorter timing belt. D16Y7/8 belt =104 teeth D16A6 belt = 107 teeth. After a $28 Gates belt it started right up. My dad forgot to torque the intake mani bolts so it had a huge vacuum leak (one too many beer maybe), after that was sorted it ran super smooth so we set the timing and let the headgasket set in.
It slowed the oil consumption but not enough so we put a liter of 30w in with the oil change. I cut out the front of the air box (cold air yo) then unbolted the muffler (left the mid-pipe), it pulls really nice. I didn't know the Y7 head would raise the compression but it now reads about 225-235 PSI across! It was detonating pretty bad though. Filled the tank with 91 oct right away and knock no more!
The cat is plugged pretty badly, when I stop it ticks like a mofo and the tunnel in the interior gets hot. We'll see how this motor lasts, it pulls strong but I think it's on it's last legs. I have my old white Si hatch that was just rear ended to take the motor from.
Since the hood was hit by a deer and covered with rock chips - I'm rusting it. I didn't want to deal with the filthy interior so its gutted. No carpet, no rear seats, no rear pannels, no stereo. Just the complete dash, door pannels, MINT Si seats (from the white hatch) and center console. The wreked hatch is actually really handy, this car will be pretty clean when I'm done.
The quarter had a huge dent that I popped out after it was gutted. My yellow rims are on the car but I gotta take em off, the alignment is wack and theres a clunking goin on (I think ball joint). I hope to steal the coilovers from my CRX, put them on the hatch then get it aligned w/ the yellow wheels.
I have lotsa pictures but I could only type this up at work.
This is an econo build so costs will always be posted. Assume the parts installed are spares I have unless I post ammounts. I have LOTS of EF parts btw.
