FWIW both these thinkpads I have (T430u, and the new Helix) the touchpad settings were perfect from the start. the T430u singlepad has a plastic, horrible feel (it has tiny braille bumps) and after awhile your fingertip starts to feel funny.

the helix has a nice smooth matte plastic singlepad. not anywhere near as nice as the HP envy series glass touchpads. those are perfect.

adjusting the settings seems to have made it good. a lot more responsive and easy going. while in there i found and adjusted the settings for the little pointer thing in the center of the keyboard, and made it a bit more useful. so, im going to try using that a bit more. but i doubt i'll use it very often.
