Dial up.. lol...
Did he get it at the antique store?
verizon dial up is easy but most of the phone techs dont know how to do it right.
since i work for verizon ill walk you through it and make sure we get it right.
the user name HAS TO BE (I dont care what billing or the phone tech says) HAS TO BE!!! vz/res****** if its vz/[yourverizonemail] it WILL NOT WORK. It might work for a few seconds, but it wont stay working.
so, user name is vz/res****** (if you dont have that name, call tech support, give them your phone number and address, they will give you that res user name) and the password is your normal verizon e-mail password.
ultimately youll setup a dialer (in the network connection wizard) and then that is your user name and password.
Billing should have given you the right telephone number. after that its Customer Hardware. Youre modem is effed, your browser is corrupt, something like that.
Did he make you ping yahoo.com?
If you do that, and it's successful:
You can use the command prompt to FTP and get a firefox installer package directly.
ftp://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5rc3/win32/en-US/Firefox Setup 1.5rc3.exe
open releases.mozilla.org
Anonymous
nopass
quote PASV
cd pub
cd mozilla.org
cd firefox
cd releases
cd 1.5rc3
cd win32
cd en-US
binary
get "Firefox Setup 1.5rc3.exe"
If you have a ping reply, then you are connected to the internet.
Use FTP to download firefox?
Make a new txt file on the desktop called ftp.txt and put this in there:
save it and exit
then go to Start->Run type "cmd"
type "cd desktop"
then type
"ftp -s:ftp.txt"
yay
why not go satellite?
start > run > cmd
ping yahoo.com
