eliminate pennies?

this has been debated for a while now. i think its useless.
hell, anything under 25 cents is useless IMO.

we'll just have to make the phone call last a little longer

people will NEVER go for it

even if you made it so that all prices were even incriments of whatever the smallest denomination is... be is .05 .10 .25 you still have tax to contend with... so the tax goes to an ammount that is not covered by the smallest denimination... so now you would have to round the number either up or down... the government is sure the fuck not going to take less money by allowing it to be rounded down... and people will flip the fuck out if the price gets rounded up so they pay more

based on current estimations of the US population if every person made one purchace per day that ended up with the tax being rounded up $.01, the US government will recieve an extra $2,983,237.00 EVERY DAY... thats $1,088,881,505.00 EVERY YEAR... and thats based off each person paying ONE PENNY to the government each day

im all fucking set with the government getting an extra 1 billion plus every year for fucking nothing

They do that because the Government charges a $0.01 fee on each gallon, which goes to a certain fund that I don't feel like looking the name of up.

Chances are if anything like this ever went through, the penny as we know it would still remain. The debate is weather to stop making them anymore. The penny would still be used in circulation. Since the oringal creation, there has been appoximently 300 BILLION pennies minted and over 150 BILLION are still in circulation. If production stopped, the penny will not dissapear. Its not like paper money where it has a life of only 10 months. A coin can last for 50-100 years. By stopping production of the penny, millions of dollars can be saved every year.
