Engine Knocking

my engine is making a terrible sound when i drive in higher rpm's. I dont know the problem but i wasn't the valves by a mechanic. wat can be the problem?

get a stethoscope (sp?) put it down lower on the block and listen.

Well i bought come detergent for my car. well the knocking didnt knock all that loud anymore. Is the problem fixed? becuz even though i was told by the mechanic that it wasnt valves, i herd that 90% of the time it is.
