Extending O2 Sensor Wiring

seeing that the oxygen sensors are too short to even reach the header or cat that I will buy in the near future, I was wondering if they are sensitive to soldering? Will they function the same? Or not? I was just wondering cause I dont feel like paying a shop $100 plus to extend the wiring. (1996 civic hatchie DX)

Get some wires and solder them on. I ve heard you need a shielded wire for the signal, but have seen people successfully do it without.

what do you mean a sheilded wire?

i gotta extend my o2 sensor to reach the downpipe next week.
all i was told to do was to get 18 gua. wire, green, two blacks and red?
and cut and splice....on a obd2 civic...


is that right?

where and what type of wires should i buy so that i can successfully extend my o2 sensor?


i was going to goto the local electrical shop and get some 18gua. electrician wire.

Get it shielded just to be safe.

oh....and what about piggybacking my ecu with the blue box fmu from greddy?

do i HAVE to solder? or can i use those "crimp connectors" or whatever they are called?
same with o2 sensor

You can get away with just the crimp connectors, but do you really want to?

i used crimp style connectors and no shielded wire and it's fine..

the shielded wire is mainly used for the knok sensor

As Pils said he didn't, I didn't and I can dig up others that haven't. But a soldered connection is more solid, just a perfectionist thing.

so in terms of how the current runs through the wires, crimp connectors are ok?

where can i buy them from and what size? would i need to work on the ecu?

Yes, Radio Shack, whatever size for the wire your using,huh?

Hell if I know the right guage, I would guess 14.
