The economy here (Michigan) is AWFUL with all the auto company layoffs. Actually it really kind of sucks for people like me who enjoy foreign automobiles, because now there's a whole crowd of import-hating douches with plenty of free time on their hands. In fact, just the other week somebody keyed the shit out of a late model Si coupe that's always parked in front of a local insurance company...

Which is ironic Toyota has a number of plants here in the States. As does Honda. Not really sure how you can call a Chevy domestic when the parts are made over seas or Canada and assembled in Mexico.

I've actually came across a Japanese S10. It wasn't RHD but it was assembled and shipped to here.

Oh, don't even get me started. Some bitch and her husband starting selling these stickers locally that say "Out of a job yet? Keep buying foreign!" and now half the cars on the road here have one. Lot of UAW "Buy American" stickers too. The funny part is, most of the Japanese cars that you see on US roads are built here, so when I see stickers like that, it translates in my mind to "You better buy a union-made vehicle or we don't give a fuck about you."

Another thing that's really odd to me - all these people HATE Japanese cars, but you hardly ever hear anyone complain about a VW, BMW, or Mercedes. The irony there is that most of the Japanese cars are built in America by Americans, but a lot of the European cars aren't...

totally true. if Kia, Toyota, and Honda shut down, more americans would lose their jobs than when GM, Chrysler, and Ford shit out.

What's this all about then? Is it about Americans having jobs? Or is it about what company the money goes to? Because it started out being about the jobs, but then you jumped tracks to a completely different argument. I could really give a shit whether it's a foreign-based company or not. That company is still employing Americans and making huge investments in America.

I love it when I get that answer, because it just illustrates that it really is all about the unions for these folks. They're just regurgitating the rhetoric that they've been brainwashed with...
