I have a 92 ls and on start up (cold) it revs up to 3000 RPM and slowly comes down from there. Now I wouldn't care about this except it knocks for one second then stops, kinda like when you do and oil change. Any thoughts? maybe FITV dirty or defective?
Well.......check the FITV....its too damn easy. Take the intake pipe off...start the car. There's a hole inside the TB (near firewall) When the motor is COLD...its should have a considerable amount of suction (put your thumb over it). Once the motor gets to running temp (fan on) it should have no suction at all.
But even with a high idle.....what the hell.....a knock???? The knock is most likely another issue all together.
agreed^^^ if you have a motor knock id be worryin about that instead of a funny idle. my da hasnt idled right ever since i finished building it dont fret. if it idles steady when its warmed up you are good
It has a start up know because it is hitting 3000 RMP right away, where as if it only hit say 2000 then that would be low enough for it not to knock on start up. So i guess what im asking is what would make it idle that high?
My b18 starts at like 1800 for the 1st start of the day.
then like 3 mins later it's idle is 850ish maybe 900 never notice a knock sound but like a putting sound every once in awhile during warm up.
