does anyone know the part no. for the adapter honda dealers use for valve spring compressors? i called the dealer and the dude was pretty much clueless about it so i figured if i had a part no. they could search for it..

I'd be confused too because I've never heard of an adapter. From what I know, they just use one of the large valve spring compresssor that Snap-On sells.
Also, they don't sell the tools they used. I tried buying the piston pin removal/installer tool(which is pretty much an adapter for a press), and they simply said they don't sell it.

well damn...ppl have been tellin me that they use a regular valve tool (like for a chevy) and use an adapter with it. ive seen posts where someone had made their own tool and i tried that but to no avail...the snap on tool is too expensive..guess im goin with the one from ebay for $80

Honda parts guys are typically pretty dumb when it comes to Honda tool part #'s because its entire different catalog. Plus they are also very, very expensive.
Here is the part number you can use for Honda:

I already had one and it broke when installing a set of BC valve springs. The damn thing is plastic of all things. I almost bought anotherone when I priced it was like $39 just for the attachment. That was also my pricing through my business. It was also going to take a week to get it from time of order.
So I just bought the entire tool spring compressor and 2 attackemnts (which are metal btw) from OTC instead off ebay. Cost me like $50 shipped and I got it within 3 days.

I like this one better over my Craftsman valve spring compressor. Solid design, doesnt flex or anything, The attachments are metal and strong and the access holes are large which makes it easy to get the valve keepers back in place easily and quickly.

how well did that one work?? it looks as tho it be the perfect size..kinda disappointed that the honda tool is made of plastic. did you just order the honda tool right from the parts dept.?
Just buy a valve spring compressor. Any brand will do. I've used some no-name one to do valve springs on a honda head. Honda has all these special tools because, well, they're japanise, and they want to do things the easy way.
Don't buy the honda tool. The only honda tool you need is the crank pully removal tool. And even then you can get away without it.

regular compressor tools are designed for chevys and other gm heads..not hondas with recessed valve springs...its either buy the adapter honda uses or the one from ebay thats made for vtec heads. id just take them to a shop to be installed but they want a zillion dollars to do it...im capable of the work i just havent got the damn tool!!

The OTC one I showed you is a good quality tool. It has a lifetime warranty too.
BTW if you you want to change out the valve springs without removing the head get this. But you will also need the adapter to put a arline into the spark plug hole to hold the valve's up.
This one is from Matco, i like Matco tools, same quality as Snap On and a lot cheaper.

ive seen that one and have been debating on buying it...works great you say? i think ill give that one a try then. when i install the new valves would i need say a 3 angle job or could i just lap the seats with some valve grinding compound?

so i bought the adapter tool from honda for the valve spring compressor and im confused.. they gave me this round metal thing with a large bolt!! wtf is this thing?? i dont see how it could be used for springs.. and the parts guy said they dont even service valves there..they send that kind of work to another shop to be done..

i couldnt find the lil blue one on ebay anymore and i didnt want to order one from matco or anything and wait 4 or 5 days to get it.....been searchin for this tool for too long so i just said fuggit, ill have it monday mornin....waste of money? i usually steer away from shop work but ill make an exception in this case ^_^

Well I take the waste of money back. Especially if the head needed a valve job anyways. If it was my head I would just go ahead and have them do a valve job at the same time with some new honda seals while your at it. It really is the only way to have the freshest head when you get down to it. Here in omaha it only costs about $170 and they clean it up real nice and fully assemble it.
