If I remember correctly we had a guy on the Badgers accidently skate over his own had a couple of years ago and missed a month or two. I am still amazed you don't see more skates/pucks to the head in Hockey at the pro level. I am also amazed they don't wear a full face mask either.
Having played both ways, it's such an advantage not wearing a full mask. I've worn a cage and clear plastic and it's still A LOT easier to see without a mask on.They do...for a month after they come back from a puck to the head. Stephan Robidas (dallas stars) has had 2 to the face and still takes off the cage once he gets the doctors ok.
