lmao. they arent THAT long. just your standard 50mm studs, lol. in my build thread i have a pic of them next to the stock ones so you can see how much longer they are. but B i cants see 3/8" making THAT big of a difference. and besides its not changing anyhting on the actual manifold so i dont see it being an issue.
I would challenge it if you were winning races. :)

:werd:

it won't matter if you suck.... lol

but if you get on the podium, be preparred to have your car torn apart.... literally.

i understand that. but i still think doing this is within the rules. but in the event that its deemed illegal ill just have the hole welded up or pluged something. but for now, this will work.

I think you're gonna be much better off cutting a square of that aluminum and welding it (or getting it welded) INTO the coolant hole, so it sits flush...

and then just redrilling the manifold.

Better safe than sorry. How shitty is it gonna be if you win something, someone challenges it, and they consider it 'modified' and you get DQ'd.

And I don't mean Dairy Queen'd.

adding that thickness will change the velocity and length of the ports, so technically, its midified...

Unless you are changing the cross sectional area of the port, the velocity is not going to change a noticable enough. So you are doing this to gain what, .3 hp? Doubtful that it is going to help you even that much without doing head modifications, which I'm guessing are illegal.

Can you link the rules to the honda challenge rules? I'm guessing you are running in the hybrid class, right?

Honestly, I can't see the switch from the gsr manifold to the p73 manifold making a very big difference on a near stock engine. Are you allowed to port and polish, or swap heads in HC? I'm thinking of building a hc engine as well. I've got a million parts just laying around.

dude im not trying to run H5 or anything. H1. theres TONS of mods that are legal. basically any mod in the head is legal (valves must remain the same size) did you see my build thread? ive got a fully worked head. you can use anything in the bottom end as long as its a honda part (hence me running jdm itr pistons in my gsr block). fasteners in the block can be anything you want (hence ARP stuff). and you can run whatever header you want. however with all these allowances the intake manifold and throttle body must be a stock unmoddified honda piece. and obviously the ITR peices are the best.

but to give an update on the plate. im pretty much not even gonna use it. im still gonna finish it, but ive decided against using it. itll shut everyone up bitching about the rules and will be one less thing i have to worry about. instead im gonna just use the hondata "race" gasket (which has no coolant hole) and then use some silicone sealant to help keep it from leaking since theres no flange backing it holding it tight against the head.

i was working on making the coolant hole work last night. but it will reqire partially filling it back up. i just drilled a hole straight through the thin edge of the plate then drilled the collant openings on corresponding sides of the plate. its not pretty as i dont have anything that takes a good amount of aluminum off at a time and i get frustrated, lol. ive tried stone bits, and other shit with the dremel but nothin really cuts that well. the little sand paper bits work well but wear out really fast. so its really hard to take off a lot of material and make everything smooth. like i siad its not pretty but it works.

kinda dark i know but the flash was fucking it up, lol.

this passage i made by drilling all the way through the edge. it goes all the way up to the passage seen (ITR side) the edge is were its gonna have to be filled/welded back up so coolant wont just fall out the bottom.

this is looking all the way through one hole and out the other.

and you wanted to see the rules here they are.

http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/Honda-Challenge.pdf

remember that when reading that there is section 9 which has exceptions to the other rules for H1 class (hybrids).

i had an older version of these rules before and i guess they added a rule that says if its not specifically allowed, then its illegal. good thing i decided against this plate, lol.

I'm looking forward to taking the teg to the track, it's not HC spec, but it'll be fun just to get it to a track day. I've got a buddies with a WRX, 91 Corvette and mustang, and as soon as I get the suspension done, we're hitting buttonwillow on a track day.

Anyway, good thing you found that 'illegal stuff' clause. Regarding the coolant passage, you shoulda just drilled a straight hole in the plate where the actual passage in the head is, and just threaded a nipple in it, and not even used the itr's IM passage. Alot easier IMO than carving a passage to use the itr passage.

hmm. thats a good idea too. haha. im honestly surprised i didnt think of that. either way im not using this plate as it would mostlikely be illegal. im thinking ill make a few of them then sell them or something. but thanks for the idea. thats definitely something ill look into when i make the second plate.

So, my next question is, have you actually mated the head and the IM yet? I am still thinking about using my modded b16 manifold on my ls head. Does hondata make a 'race' gasket for ls apps? I might just modify the ITR manifold I have lying around and do the same thing you are doing, just on my ls instead. I actually mounted and portmatched the b16 manifold I have to the ls head I'm running now, but am cautious of that coolant passage.

funny you should ask. im sure hondata makes a race gasket for the LS. just call hondata and make sure first. then when you call one of their dealers to order make sure to tell them you want the race version and explain what it is if they dont know. i HIGHLY recommend king motorsports if you are gonna order it. price is fair 55 +shipping. mine came to like 62 shipped. and they were very helpful and polite on the phone. the guy didnt know what i was talking about at first but i explained it and he special ordered it from hondata. and on top of that i got it in 3 days time. very fast. they even threw in a mugen calendar with some pimp ass cars :) to king.

pic of my race gasket.

and no i havent mated the mani to the head yet cause i havent gotten my hand on an ITR mani yet. i have no doubt in my mine that it will fit without a problem though. just have to drill some holes but thats it.

also, VERY important to remember. you cant just block the passage and be done with it. the engine will overheat. you will have to T off the coolant hose that goes to the head under the dizzy and route it back to the thermostat (where the line from the intake usually goes.
this is how you will have to setup the coolant lines.

I seem to remember that problem when I was considering using the b16 manifold. You don't have an ITR manifold yet? I have one if you need one. new, bare, never mounted to anything. I need to get a skunk2 pro, or a blox for it to be a bolt on affair.

so youre gonna tre to redrill the b16 mani to fit the LS head? or you just gona go with the skunk2 or blox? aebs is a good one too. PMing you about the manifold...

It already fits. I have pics on my diy pnp thread that I posted a while back. I want to go with the blox, as it is a good manifold, and less expensive and less likely to be picked up by a smog guy. AEBS doesn't make an LS application, and is never going to do one, I already emailed them a while ago, but yes they make a good IM as well.
