this is a question for those of you who have had engine work done at a machine shop, i am looking for a ballpark figure for the following things so i know if im getting ripped off or not when i go. i will be buying the pistons, rod bolts and oem bearings so no parts will be needed just labor.

b18b block

install new pistons and rings on stock rods, install bearings, install new rod bolts, hone cylinder walls if needed.

i was thinking a couple hundred.

just looking for ballpark numbers , im in florida if anyone here has done this type of thing.

I recently paid 300 for a quality hone. that mean round and no tapper.
face deck 75
align crankbore 200
short block assembly 600
before everyone goes you got ripped off..... I wanted it right....period. the quality of the cylinder walls is a huge factor in obtaining power and longivity.

wow thats a lot more than i was looking for and a lot more than my buddies he had completely redone.

I paid $470 for the following on a b18b1 botom end..
balance (from crank pulley to clutch)
blueprint
bore .020 over
hone
micropolished crank
machined rods (for CTR pistons)
ultrasonic wash

no assmbly though...i do that myself...

Bwaaaahhaaaaahahhahaha :bo:

What the fuck is a "quality hone" and how do you tapper the cylider walls? Do you mean taper? That's pretty hard with just a hone.

You got ripped off.

sittin here waiting for some greenbacks and they are yours. ahahahha

Every shop is going to charge different base and hourly prices. Your best bet is to start calling up shops in your area and ask around.

I believe for the boring/honing/cleaning of my old 1.8 block the shop quoted around 450.

Hmmmmm.... My apoligies on the spelling. I will double check my post from now on just for you, sohcslammer. The rest of your comments do not deserve a relpy.

The hone price also included sonic cleaning and boring.

As you can see this quality job is going to be turbo.

vtecsir1,
What type of build are you doing?
