ehh, not really.

lose the monitor and lose the software, and its a 1300 computer.

the monitor will last me a long time.

plus, i get to write it off as a business expense :D

i give it 8 months before you complain its slow.

i've never complained about my laptop being slow, and it's 1/4 the specs of this.
my vid card is dying though. keeps over heating and shutting down on me.

probably dust in your cooling fan. best bet is to pop the keyboard out since its only a few tabs and screws and blow it out.

Great components, IMO. DFI board is going to be great to you, but definately not recommended for newbs. Overclocks like a beast which means its stable as fuck.

The only thing I would probably wouldve done different is picked up an 8800GT instead of the 8600GTS. For $50-70+, you would get a card that rivals a 8800GTX for half the price and beat the pants off anything ATI has to offer and most of Nvidias own product line. Plus, it would last much much longer than the 8600GTS in terms of being outdated.

Anyway, where are the speakers and input device?

liquid cool the mofo:D

too much money and overkill IMO.

i've already opened it all up and cleaned it out. it wasn't even really dirty.

i've turned my latop off maybe twice in the 2 years i've owned it. lol it just never had a chance to cool down i guess.

Sell me your old one for dirt cheap.

i'm keeping it around for a little while. i don't think my music/recording shit works with vista :(

yeah some of the reviews had me a little scared. i know my way around the bios enough... i think i'll be able to figure it out. i'm probably not even going to clock it. the default speed is probably quick enough for me.

i had 5 vid cards in my cart at one point. lol
i figured if there was anywhere to skimp a little bit, it would be on that. its the easiest thing the upgrade later (besides maybe ram... but hard to skimp lower than 2gb for 50 bucks).
i'm not a gamer... i'll be using this for work/programming. i think thats plenty of power for me to support the monitor. if not, i'll ebay it and get a $500 card or something after new years.

Anyway, where are the speakers and input device?

i have professional amp'ed studio speakers connected via usb outboard sound docks. i don't need no stinking pc speakers.
and i have a full size keyword and mouse on my laptop now... and an all in one printer faxer, etc... no need for it.

amd has a new platform out "the spyder" quad core (not as fast as intel) but runs 4 graphic cards simultainously and is suposed to be very stable doing it.

i think you did well b! my dad runs a 30 inch monitor himself and once you get used to the size it seems perfect.

i dont get why people oc fast enough chips, its just for bragging rights. i play an assortment of video games and dont need to oc my machine. im sure b doesnt need to oc his machine to script or code.

good stuff. nothing too complicated....

yeah, i hear ya.

i'm going from a 1.6 ghz amd turion single core to a 2.4 ghz quad core.
oem for oem, its going to be stupid faster than what i'm used to.

if i bump it at all, it will be to 2.6 or 2.8 max.

500 dollars for your OS and office suite?

CHRIST! I could double my server's drive space to 4TB for that much!
