Here is why.
1.) I get to have a real president after he is out of office, due to their being an equal and opposite reaction to every action.
2.) With juan mccain, you would have received amnesty for illegals instead of healthcare, we’d still be at war, stuck in a depression, and both Guantanamo Bay and the Patriot act would still be in place. Universal healthcare would follow amnesty as the newly legal illegals clamor for socialist handouts.
Obama is continuing the worst parts of the Bush presidency, and Mccain would definitely have done the same thing.

US fears Hamas, Hizballah setting up shop in Mexico
Washington believes the Palestinian terror group Hamas and the Iranian-backed Lebanese terrorist militia Hizballah are looking to set up operations in Mexico with the aim of eventually infiltrating the United States, according to a former CIA counter-terrorism official.
Robert Grenier, who until recently was head of the CIA's counter-terrorism center, told a press conference in Mexico last Thursday that the Muslim terrorist organizations see the illegal immigration and drug trafficking networks in the Latin American nation as the most effective way to move people and equipment into the US.
Grenier said that the Bush Administration fears both Hamas and Hizballah may already have sleeper cells operating in Mexico.
Hamas and Hizballah have both threatened in the past to extend their war against Israel to include the United States.

I think this is a great excuse to up action at the border. There has to be some loophole somewhere that people can be shot on sight if thought to be an invading army or other violent force. Not only will this slow if not deter the cartels and terrorist groups, but your every day illegal may thing twice when the options are get to America to cut grass or get shot and die.

Ok...enough of that. Let me share a with you all a fresh perspective. First, I'm an American, of Irish/English heritage, born and raised in South Bend Indiana. I now live in Toluca, Mexico very close to Mexico City. I've been here for 7 years. I teach high school (English). Why? Because I wanted to experience something different in my life. I sold houses in Chicago and did well, but life was becoming ever more meaningless, but I digress. What I would like to tell you all is that most Mexicans don't want to live in the USA, a few (relatively few) cross the border because of the lack of opportunities here, or the worst case scenario is that they CANNOT find work and cannot feed their families. They mostly wanna go to the USA for a few years (and leave behind their loved ones) so that they can save enough money to start a business here or build a house here (in Mexico). It's a sacrifice to be away from their family for many years, they do it out of love, honor, duty, things that we as Americans can certainly respect. Yes, it's wrong, yes it causes problems with the social systems in the USA. I'm not condoning it, but I understand it. The reasons that they have to do this are many...mostly because the government here really sucks. It robs the people of their money (taxes etc) and the politicians get rich, the people just get poorer. This is especially predominant in the states of Michoacan and Zacatecas. Furthermore, we looked the other way for many years because we didnt want to pay more for fruit and vegetables. Cheaper labor = cheaper prices in the supermarkets, right? Cheaper labor means cheaper prices in restaurants, right? Our own citizens don't want (or didnt want) to work in these menial jobs until recently. Well times have turned hard in the USA and now we want to kick em all out and close the border. Granted, this is an oversimplified explanation, but there is much truth in it.
Mexico (and Mexicans) are very upset about the shit going on in Arizona. This has caused a lot of talk down here, and of course it gets blown out of proportion, and there is bound to be backlash.
The people down here are good people and deserve our respect. Treat an incident as an incident, do not condemn the whole country. I used to get a lot of people saying things like Americans are assholes....you and your f-ing president Bush, starting wars all over the place in the name of freedom and democracy, they told me that they knew we just wanted to control the oil! I said, whoa whoa whoa.....I hate Bush, and I didn't vote for him, and he's not MY president, anymore than whoever is president here is THEIR president. Don't judge me because of him. All I ask is that you all don''t judge an entire country for the acts of a relative minority, and to have a little compassion and empathy. (Yes, I vote Democrat)

but, there have been a lot of us that have been wanting stricter border control since we were old enough to understand the situations.
if the mexican people really want things to change for them there, they need to make it happen. its been done in countries before, and it will be done again. maybe even our own.

There is no sunset anymore with The Patriot Act.
From what they are saying they where not throwing 3/4 crushed at the agents, they where large sized stones that could inflict damage if not death. The agent was in the process of detaining potentially dangerous individuals and then assaulted by an unknown number of assailants. Our laws, well specifically Arizonas laws deem that deadly force is justifiable in the event of bodily harm.
This is not a situation of someone walking down the street and someone throwing a rock at them. You have the option of retreating. This agent was assaulted during the course of duty. You have to keep in mind that he probably had no idea how many assailants there where, their location and their intent. There is a theory known as the bubba effect, essentially it breaks down like this. You have a group of people who are generally well mannered law abiding citizens as individuals. But you get one douche bag in the group who throws a bottle, then someone else throws a brick, a third throws a punch. On and on it goes. It is the effect of being in a crowd. Now I bring this up because the agent at this particularly moment in time when the shooting occurred there is a good chance he did not have a fraction of the "facts" that have come out since then. I firmly believe that military and law enforcement in these situations need to be judged on the information that they had at the time. We are rapidly approaching the point where our LEOs are going to allow either themselves or someone else to be seriously injured or killed before they apply the proper amount of force. This has occurred in some ways already. The LEO community adopted the baton as their less than lethal weapon of choice, they got their dick punch because they where breaking peoples bones. Next up was OC, now people with breathing issues or food allergies where dying, getting sick whatever. The third iteration and most recent iteration is the Tazer. And look at the shit storm that crops up each time an officer deploys it. So if your a cop what in the hell do you do? On one hand the son of a bitch your going up against had better have his finger on a dead mans switch that is tied to a bus full of blind nuns on their way to a homeless shelter for retarded gay puppies or your ass is grass. And dont even think about using OC or your Tazer unless you have a NACI completed, full medical work up and a mental health screening.
Now what would happen if you allowed your paper work to lapse in Mexico? Or lets say you came down through an exchange program. You are allowed 18 months to teach English out in the sticks. At the end of the 18 months you feel like you are just getting through to the kids and you decide to stay with a friend of yours you made at the school your working at. Now what would the Mexican government do to you?
Our system for legal immigration is fucked up there is no doubt about that. One of our members is trudging through it at this very moment. But what really, really pisses me off is that we Americans are expected to forgive the violation of OUR borders. Yet if I illegally cross into Mexico; lets say to help setup half way houses for folks who flee their home because of the cartels my ass goes to jail/prison for two years. I am fined out the ass oh and my family almost goes bankrupt because I have to pay the guards a weekly payment to make sure Paco doesn't shank me. President Calderon would be much better off asking the American people to help get his country on track. Offer incentives to our businesses to establish offices and plants that pay a decent wage within their boarders. Offer more cooperation with our DEA and intelligence services to help stomp out the cartels.
I am sorry the situation is so shitty in Mexico but I have nothing to do with that. It pisses me off to have President Calderon along with President Obama on their mutual high horse talking about the evils of Americans. It is ALL our fault that the cartels run shit down south because we have a drug problem, it is ALL our fault that the cartels have all of these full autos, grenades, forty mike mikes and fucking RPGs. Never mind the southern border that is comparable to Swiss cheese. I mean why would FARC want instability within a country that could be a potential ally to the government they so violently oppose?

about 10+ years ago, we had a big news story here that concerned just that.
There was a guy, had all of his land fenced off, and efficiently labeled NO TRESPASSING.
one day, a couple of kids decided to use his property as a shortcut, the guy saw them heading towards his house, he yelled and told them to leave, they ignored them. one of those kids ended up dead.
the guy wasnt convicted of anything. the kids were trespassing, they were warned and they ignored it.
do i believe that the kid should have died for trespassing? no.
do i believe the guy was well withing his rights to shoot? yes.
its cut and dry. its simple. it really is. you cant look at all of these types of situations from an emotional standpoint. emotions have no place at all in laws.
