I was reading Stuff Mag (got it free) and they had an interesting article. It was about people getting kanji tats and having no idea what it really means. Anyway, was browsing the linked site and down on the very bottom, a white supremacist gets the word, "Say No to NI99@" tat on his back. Its friggin huge and it has absolutely no meaning.

Way to go A-Hole.

I hope this tattoo was the first one EVER done by the wannbie tattoer.

it looks like one big ink blob

if you look at some of the other ones in the archieves (sp?) some of them are completely upside down or smeared. i rather get google tated on me then let some of those "artists" ink anything kanji on me.

oh mike (calesta) are all his corrections really right? dang, it seems anal, like missing little strokes or whatever. but i guess it could be since one stroke added to man can change it to tree. haha.

I once saw a guy in a supermarket with a tat on his neck.....

Kanji read "Itai"

Translation.... "Ouch"

what i find odd is that a white supremicist had kanji (japanese writing) tattooed on him. isnt that an oximoron or some shit?

Not to threadjack: But does anyone know of a good person/place to get something translated to REAL calligraphy? I have something in mind, but I don't want to get kanji, because I'd rather find someone that can turn the words in to something much more beautiful/artful.

Actually, if you do it in a handwritten calligraphy style, it will look more like that- brush strokes and all. That one's just mirrored.

Yes, it matters. Yes, he's right- for the ones that I understood. I didn't bother to check them all. I assume that he's a Chinese speaker, and that he knows how to use a Chinese dictionary. Remember that Chinese has no alphabet- it's all heiroglyphs... and since I haven't used my reading/writing skills in forever, I've forgotten most of the small (written) vocabulary that I used to know. But yeah- one line or dot, even just out of place, can completely change the meaning of a word.

Sure- what do you want translated? Just throw it up here or PM it to me. I'll translate it with a dictionary, run it through my own mental "does that look correct and not just like some random textbook translation" library, then mock it up in a bunch of different fonts (calligraphy styles too) and post it back here as a PDF and a JPEG. I've done quite a few for people at work to make tattoos from. Hell, if you want and you're not happy with the fonts, I could probably get some of my friends who have good handwriting to make some nice calligraphy panels and ship them to you. My handwriting sucks, so you wouldn't want me to make them for you.

:)

By the way- the Chinese words that Bed Bath & Beyond sells for decorative use in their stores are ALL WRONG except for 2. Crazy. The girl at the register thought it was pretty funny when I told her what they all meant.

im the dumbass?

being a racist and being white supremacist are 2 different things. someone can hate chinese people and that does not mean he thinks that whites are the supreme race and everyone else is inferior. maybe he just has something against chinese.

"He's a racist-dumbass."

Not
"He's a racist, dumbass."

Although, whatever you read into is probably true... :)

yeah, but the point wasnt wether or not he was racist.

bdn said it was odd that a white supremacist would have kanji on him, which would be ironic.

my point was that hes obviously not a white supremacist, hes just racist torwards blacks, which would explain why he would have a kanji tat.

oh well, this is a stupid arguement anyway.

who does those kanjis for american companies??? i mean, to think a company like bed, bath and beyond couldnt get someone decent to do it. maybe it was some chinese intern with a good sense of humor.

:werd: :withstupid: but he's still racist against black people. Prejudice based on your experience and feelings is one thing- everyone carries a certain amount of prejudice against other races. Being racist takes things to a totally different level.

I don't think BB&B actually made those plaques- they just sold them. I doubt that they doublecheck all their product before they sell, especially stuff that only goes for $30-40 when there's $5000 stuff in the store to take care of.

Hey I have Kanji but I researched it myself, two years before I got it. I might be "imitasian" but at least I've done my homework!
