Lets see if i can explain this real quick.
Binary allows a computer to communicate extremely efficiently using only 2 characters. Most binary that you will need to know about is 8-bit (like old NES and the alphabet in this case)
8-bit binary can count up to 256 variables with 0 being a variable.
heres how it works.
0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 each zero represents a number. When the 0 becomes a 1, that number is added
128-64-32-16-8-4-2-1
1-0-0-0-1-0-1-1 acually means 128+8+2+1
So 10001011=139.
Binary numbers are also used to represent text as above.
You can find that list here http://www.tekmom.com/buzzwords/binaryalphabet.html
Also another use for binary is to find out how many colors your monitor can display. If you check the display properties and it says your monitor uses 16-bit color. Your monitor can display 65,535 different colors. If it says 24-bit (usually on lower end budget cards) you can display 16,777,216 colors, and at 32-bit you can display 4,294,967,296 colors.
